I'm sure some of you have noticed the occasional "collision" of your own laser/missile fire with the enemy projectiles. I want to know if someone gave this some serious thought and to check if this was a viable tactic for "defense" against let's say missiles.
I mean it would be absolutely awesome if you could shoot down the enemy missiles with your burst lasers with a 75% probability or even more.
So for example I noticed that missiles come usually from a random direction, but there may be a pattern, maybe someone can elaborate on this one. This plays definately a major role when considering this as a tactic, not just random occurence.
Because lasers, missiles do not follow a set path, (they can come at any angle onto your ship) and your lasers / Missiles always fire in a set path, the chances of them colliding are minuscule. The only reason this happens with any frequency, is the sheer amount of projectiles you fire during one game. By no means could you actually control this, due to the inherent randomness of the actual occurrence.
So just get a Defense Drone I.
It would be cool, agreed, but no it's not possible, at least according to my experiences.
By the way, I believe such a thread does not belong to the "Tips, Strategy & Guides" section of the forum. Currently, the best place would be the general Discussion forum. If you agree with this, just tell me, I can move it.

I know that their projetiles are flying in random, but, since your projectiles are incoming from a set direction, you can shoot the projectiles still on their screen.

how? your projectiles are incoming from random direction as well as far as I can tell. ( i've seen a screenshot of 2 beams fired at once hitting the enemy ship from 2oclick ang 6 oclock.) have you figured out how to determine what angle the player shots will come from?
besides your projectiles wont leave your side of the screen before theirs leave their side..
Well I tried to shoot down enemy defense drones and never succeeded, because the direction always seems to be the one you dont want it to be. This was in a game where I relied on missiles to take down shields, so my only chance was to take out the Boss phase 2 defense drones. I failed.
( I could have still won if I took out the boss crew in phase one, but I only realised that in phase 2 where that failed without weapons support against the medbay)
