I did exactly that. I bought on HB and installed in my GAMES folder, and i activated on steam and installed on steam.
Now, when patch is out, i can install it on steam and play with steam version, until patch appears on HB. Then i install HB version and can play w/o steam. They both use same save / profile files.
So the only benefit is to be able to enjoy patches from day 1 - developers seem to be slow with patching other versions atm, and i am not patient
. Correct me if i'm wrong, but if you dont start Steam when Win boots, then it doesnt do anything (it doesnt run services on your pc or monitor you in some way) until you launch it or steam-linked game, so basically you can just keep it on your disk and not run it unless you need some fresh FTL
