It's been like that since at least 300 years.

On October 18 GOG.com will be announcing support for a new operating system. As well as some "thrilling announcements" for Mac users. Sorta Enigmatic, but such is GOG :D

How is that relevant at all?
DRM has nothing to do with a consumers safety. No-one is more secure by choosing a DRM option over a non-DRM one, and no-one thinks they are either. When they do choose that, they do it for entirely different reasons.

Have you anti-DRMers started resorting to spouting any old irrelevant nonsense now in the hopes no-one will notice and just assume you know what you're talking about?

Actually DRM has and still does impact consumer safety. When researching steam when learning that Civ5 required it, i was interested to learn All of the ramifications of it's use. One thing clearly found was that steam creates a backdoor to users machine. Security experts agree, that is a vulnerability. And then steam has conflicts with users anti-virus. Common enough that steam created an FAQ for this. steam says.. 'ahh don't worry, just disable your AV and turn off firewall while playing your games, everything will be fine'. Yeah right, bot attacks launching thousands of attempts per minute are seeking just that. Not to mention MP players initiating MP sessions in order to gain pc addresses for targeted attacks. There is more. DRM can very well pose a security threat.

There is a long list of reasons i'll own no digital media with DRM. But only one is needed for me: i wish to Own my usage license. steams method give them the usage license. Usage can be severed at their will. For undeclared reasons. i don't accept that. For people who do, thats fine for you. But i won't. i've seen enough to know better.. for me :)

Yes, here it's actually laziness in applying patches rather than safety.
OFC unless someone feels insecure without the latest patch, which might be what's happening here.

The quote is indeed old, but it's very relevant and very true.
You can't see the parabola between convenience of living in a totalitarian system which provides for your basic needs (safety being one of them) but takes your freedom away from you and convenience of using DRM platform which provides autoupdating and ingame chat but may take the game from you anytime without reason. That's sad, but it was such short-sighted ppl Franklin had in mind. Back to my point: since 300 years, nothing changed.

I've never thought of myself as an 'anti-DRMer', but on the other hand I never thought any end user would actually be in support of DRM.

I don't really care about DRM that much, but if given an option, I will take the version without any. I'm just surprised that people would chose a version with DRM , since it doesn't really appear that Steam offers that much more for FTL than the GoG or other versions.

But such is the braindead approach of steam users I suppose. I don't even have anything against Steam, just the stupidity of the supporters of it vs. the rabidity of the detractors often offers me opportunities to enjoy myself :D

I was a Steam fanboi. Until they gave me a choice : waive rights to seek justice at court or stop playing.
I know it doesn't affect me. But the fact they've forced me to click "Agree" does affect my understanding of control they have over games I've purchased.

You know, us lot who actually get use out of steam and are happy to support one of the few reasonable forms of DRM would probably take you a bit more seriously if you didn't act like steam was literally the spawn of Satan himself.

Just saying. ;)

I'm also using Steam. I just fear the day my games will stop working.
