Icehawk is right - it looks like that firing weapons while cloaked will run down your timer faster. I haven't tried it with beam weapons yet though.

Yeah, the few times I've tried the stealth cruiser I'm sure I've seen a few occasions where the weapons have fired when I'm in the middle of cloak. I can't remember which weapons I had, but I'm sure my cloak was only level 1 or 2. I do target the weapons right at the start of the charge cycle though, so this might be accurate:

Many years ago I created the FTL Starcraft mod: 18 new challenging ships to fly through the FTL universe!, and wrote a tutorial on creating your own FTL ships. They haven't been updated for AE though.

Firing in stealth does not remove stealth. It only reduce the duration of stealth. A lot of situation this means that the reduction makes the stealth end. but there are still many occasions where it doesn't end when firing weapons.
