Ok. I'll have to test more things to see where the problem is occurring. I hope to put out a minor patch in the next couple days for a few more bugs, this will be on the list of things to get fixed.

Sorry about the inconvenience.

No worries, I have patience of a rock. FTL is wonderful game so I can as much as needed to play it properly again c:

Good luck with problem searching!
FTL graphics are pixelated/messy?
Find the game's settings.ini file and add 'swapTexture=1' there. Said file should be in [steam directory]/steamapps/common/ftl
Hope that helps! C:

One more question actually. If it was working before, and squishing FTL to fit into your monitor, that would suggest your monitor believes it can support 1280x720 (or higher) resolutions. Is it not possible to increase the resolution of your desktop?

My monitor is apparently able to support that resolution, just checked that. But everything looks utterly terrible when I'm on it. And I have this weird feeling that it looks brighter too...

Try running FTL Fullscreen with Black Borders with your monitor set to 1280x720. Or just experiment with the different settings with a different native desktop resolution. I'm not sure what's going on and I'll still be looking into it on my side, but that might work as a workaround for now.

What kind of monitor is that? A CRT? :)

LCD, from, uh. Can't be older than the rest of my PC, so from 2007/8 I think?

Also, wouldn't 1280x720 qualify as widescreen? v:

EDIT: Well, FTL looks all OK when my monitor is set to 1280x720. FTL is actually the only thing that looks OK on that resolution, down to pleasant non-eye-blasting lights.

But I always thought the game had a code for automatic resolution change when the game starts :P

Ok, I was just curious, because brightness changing with resolution was very much an artifact of the old CRT days. ;)

But it is possible that your LCD remembers settings (including brightness and contrast) per resolution, so it's possibly not just your mind playing tricks. At least it's not worrying as could be the case with a CRT.

It does try to. But it also has to trust other variables, like your native resolution (it prefers to keep it if it can), and the resolutions that SDL library polls to see what you support (which sometimes doesn't work). That's why the error message you're seeing also says "make sure your default desktop resolution is set high enough" :)

That said, there's also a possible bug in "FTL Native Resolution" mode that's preventing it from accurately working for you. So I'll see if that can get fixed for a future patch.

Hope the workaround is sufficient for now!
