There's a big difference between what the drivers claim to support, and what they correctly implement.eiji wrote:I too have full support for OpenGL (2.1 actually, tested with OpenGL extensions viewer, 100% 2.1 support) and am experiencing the same problem.![]()
So it must be something else.

Re: Game overly pixelated
Never had ANY problems (of this kind, graphical, 2D or 3D) with any games before, and I've played quite a lot of them. There's got to be some other variables involved.

Please check out the beta patch on Steam if you have access to Steam. This problem should be fixed.
If you don't have access to Steam, I apologize for the delay but the patch is still being tested. We'll get you hooked up within a couple days!

Re: Game overly pixelated
There used to befan-made ATI Catalyst drivers available for download. I would sometimes use them when the last released drivers by ATI itself were no good.
I think that they might be called "Omegadrivers" but I am not sure if those are the ones I used to use as it's been many years ago.
Check out http://www.omegadrivers.net/
Use at your own risk, haven't tried this in years!

Re: Game overly pixelated
I've got the same problem on my laptop, which has a Radeon Mobility 9600/9700 chip. On my desktop PC, which has a NVidia GeForce 440 GT graphics card, it runs fine.
The newest driver available for the Radeon 9600/9700 graphics chip is Catalyst 10.2. There's a tool which lets you mod drivers to recognize old ATI graphics chips (http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool.php) but it doesn't work with Catalyst drivers newer than legacy 10.2 (the only official driver available from my laptop's manufacturer is way older). Old Catalyst drivers don't support Open GL 2.0, FTL isn't the only game I have problems with. Older Catalyst drivers (like the one supplied by Fujitsu-Siemens, my laptop's manufacturer) don't even run those games (produce crashes at startup), with Catalyst 10.2 you get distortion. Would be nice to get a Direct 3D rendering option for FTL, because there's no way to get OpenGL 2.0 working with these old graphics chips (which annoys me pretty much).
BTW, the omega driver mentioned above doesn't fix this problem either because it's based on legacy Catalyst drivers, there's no version available based on newer drivers. I've also tried out DNA drivers (http://donotargue.com/) and NGO drivers (http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=File ... n_cat_id=9), but they either don't work at all or don't fix the problem. You can try them out, but I guess they won't help (but maybe they work better with other ATI mobile graphics chips).

Re: Game overly pixelated
Just to be clear guys, the problem should be fixed in v1.02, which is available right now on Steam in the Beta Branch and will be available early next week as a public patch if all goes well. Link again:

No fan made drivers should be necessary.

They don't work anyway, as I described.Matthew wrote:No fan made drivers should be necessary.
Cool, I'll try out the new version when available on the Humble page! If it works I'll finally be able to play the game on my laptop.

Re: Game overly pixelated
Just tried out version 1.02.05. Sadly it didn't fix the OpenGL-problems for me. The game still is overly pixelated and I get strange lines over and under my ship. Attached some screenshots to show it. BTW, one question: Where can I change the resolution/fullscreen setting outside of the game? Is there a config file? I have to alt-tab or ctrl-alt-del out of the game and terminate the task when I set the wrong setting.

Yes there is. You should find a settings.ini file in the same folder as the game executable, including some more manual options for graphic settings.spillblood wrote:Where can I change the resolution/fullscreen setting outside of the game? Is there a config file?

Re: Game overly pixelated
Spillblood, add the line:
swapTexture=1
anywhere in your settings.ini file in your FTL installation folder. I'm discovering that sometimes video drivers will lie about which OpenGL features it supports as well as not supporting them. That line is a manual override to switch into another texture mode that FTL should be detecting based on your video card.
