The Valiant

Post by Dogon11 »

( I figured I'd start a story simply based around my experiences. Here, we start with Sector-1.)

The ship drifted slowly out of the dock, with the tiny thrusters mounted along the ship's perfect angles backing us out. Suddenly, they switched off. The ship went silent for a split second before they came on again, slowing us down and rotating us to face away from the station. Our ship, a beauty in digitized camo by the name of The Valiant, was finally done. The ship had served as part of the Federation Special Reconnasaince Unit for almost ten years, before being heavily injured in a battle against a Rebel Destroyer, in which a missile punctured the ship's engine, causing it to drift powerless. They managed to kill the destroyer before turning on the distress beacon and going into cryo-sleep. They were woken two years later by the retreating Federation fleet, and the ship was set for demolition. However, a research outpost close to the front lines had requested it for a special mission. Our mission. We had the data to end the war, and now we had a horse. The FTL drive powered up, and the bridge's automatic Slipspace Optic Shields slipped into place. Jax, the weapon man, walked back to his post before turning on the green status light, letting us know we were armed. Our Zoltan comrade, King, fell back to his post at Cloaking. Our stealth cruiser had been given a second life and a second crew. Now, it had a second mission. The FTL drive finally spun into place, and the ship warped away into space.

We appeared in a nebula, surrounded by the final hurrah of a dead star. An enemy scout spotted us, and began pursuit. King, seeing our predicament, asked me if he could Cloak us. I nodded back, and he turned the system on right as the rebel scout fired. The shot missed, and we disappeared into the ion storm, before jumping to a safer location.

After another jump, we stumbled upon a bianry gas giant system. We stopped to marvel, just as a pirate in a Rock scout appeared. He fired a shot across the bow, waking us all to the danger we faced. Instinctively, Jax powered up the super-weapon onboard, and King cloaked the ship. We fired the beam, cutting a hole straight through their weapon control, shield center, and life support. They fired off a missile just before the weapons powered down. It struck us just aft of the bridge, rocking the entire ship. However, it must've had a faulty warhead as it simply bounced off the hull. The ship's RCS brought us back on target, and the beam fired again, cutting the enemy ship in half, with it's two crewmembers floating out into space, clutching at their throats. Victory, albeit a dirty one, was ours. We powered up the FTL drive and prepared to warp out of system again.

This time, we warped into the system to find everything cluttered up with distress signals. After separating the signal, we followed it to the rocky planet's moon. A pirate-controlled Federation scout wipped around the rocky satellite. We cloaked instantly, and charged up the beam again. The enemy turned to attempt to train their weapons on anything, but we had a powerful cloaking system. Suddenly, the ship crackled back into view, and the enemy fired a laser beam, cutting into the electronics at the life support system mainframe, causing a fire to break lose. Instinctively, I vented the chamber until the fire went out, before sending in the other two to fix the damage. Eventually, it came back online, and they returned to their posts. We then jumped to the next system, getting closer and closer to the beacon.

When we appeared in the nebula surrounding the next short-range warp station, a loud bubbling sound emanated somewhere down the corridor. I had dealth with this before. I grabbed the intercom mic and shouted "Boarders! Everyone to weapons!" Then, I vented the atmosphere everywhere except weapons. On my way to weapons, I ran through door control where the boarders were. They fired at me repeatedly, missing all times, before I darted into weapons, closing the door behind me, listening to the hiss of the atmosphere in the chamber venting. They suddenly darted through the door behind me, firing upon all before taking out long knives and charging Jax and I. We both struggled to fight them off, while King fired upon them using his energy blaster. They both succumbed to the sustained fire, eventually simply ceasing to breathe. We then turned off the gravity system and floated them out the airlock, back into the nebula from which they came. I remotely shut all doors and began re-pressurizing all cabins before heading off with Jax to medbay for treatment by the ship's computer. He looked worse than I had though after the battle.

He eventually pulled through his wounds, and we all returned to our stations after two days in medbay, to continue the trip towards the fleet.

Our next beacon had a surpise for us, as a nearly dead Engi warped aboard instantly. We rushed him to the medbay before he could die on us, and put him under for the ship's computer to treat during the flight. We figured that we'd keep him under for five days, and then bring him out and explain who we were and what our mission was. Then, we jumped onwards to the next beacon.

We finally jumped to the long range beacon. This time, a merchant station orbited the nearby gas planet, and not a pirate ship. We spent a day aboard calming down before returning to the ship and continuing on with our mission. The long-range beacon powered up and shot us out towards the next sector.
