AND IT IS GOOD! Love it!

So, just sayin: bad buyer's experience being had, and it is a complete mystery to me why Subset games has salami sliced their release to this extent. Sell me the bloody game that works on osx, steam, whatever okay? Don't throw these same-but-different options at me.

Also, Imagine person who buys on GOG and then finds out "Oh sorry, no OSX or Linux or steam for you". How were they supposed to know? They will also feel somehow cheated becasuse there's not any real awesome reason for this to be so. Its just because. And it sucks for the customer.
THAT'S THE WAY IT ALWAYS WORKS!

This is nothing new with FTL, that's just how selling games works. It's not Subset Games's fault, if you have to blame anyone, you should be blaming GOG and Steam, they're the ones who choose how their games are sold. GOG has always been Windows only, Steam has only comparatively recently started releasing Mac games. And they never ever share games.

Would you prefer it if you could only get FTL through one website, so there was no confusion? Because right now you're basically blaming the developers for giving us choices of where we want to get the game from.

This all modern shit is just ridiculous, thats what i say. I hate everything about it.

Game is supposed to be a game. You are supposed to have means to try it for free (shareware, demo, w/e) then pay for full version or stop playing (and if you do not offer free trial people will pirate your game but wont pay anything at all). If there must be something to prevent game from being pirated, which fails anyway, because there is no way to prevent a game from being pirated except making it online-only, and D3 showed why making a singleplayer game online-only is a no-go, but if developer insists on DRM, it should be transparent for the user.

If i have a choice to:
- pay full game price before i can try it, be forced to install some bogus software (STEAM) in order to play Skyrim, plus forced to bind it to my account (so they can for whatever reason at whatever time deny me access to Skyrim because they can) (or if i have legal issue with them they'll ban my whole account and i'll lose all my games, even before court settles the case), be forced to launch said bogus software in order to play the game, have numerous problems because bogus software cannot update itself, automatically installed some shit on my PC which breaks something, shows annoying popups like USER X CAME ONLINE YAY! etc... or even worse, be forced be connected to the internet in order to launch a single plaeyr game
- pay nothing, get full game for free, try it, then if i like it, pay for it and continue playing without any excessive software installed on my pc, without any problems with DRM, updates, etc

Guess what's the choice a sane human will make?

Really, all this hassle with buying a game at some distributor is becoming so stupid that its better to buy the game legally, but download a cracked torrent, and play cracked version just because its free of DRM.

And then they take a product which is the same damn game on different operating systems and overcomplicate it by providing one version on one system, other on another system, and so on....

Well, honestly, i think it does more harm than good. Only curious where it will lead us in the following years.... At least Gabe Newell supports Linux gaming and wants to challenge Windows 8 by transferring majority of Steam games to Linux, so that it becomes a viable OS for gaming

Agreed, I'm not sure what any of the rant had to do with FTL at all.

I'd hardly call steam intrusive, it doesn't use that much in the way of system resources and all the pop ups can be turned off. But each to their own. And hell, they even fixed offline mode (FINALLY), so that's not a problem any more either.

Back on topic, this is kinda silly. It's said very clearly that the GOG just gives you a GOG windows version of the game (abet DRM free), and if you wanted a steam key you could have just bought direct from steam or even better direct from the devs, for both DRM free AND steam copies of the game.

It sucks the mistake was made, but the devs have very kindly given multiple options available for people to buy the game, so they can do it how they wish. Blaming them because you rushed through with the payment or simply mis-read the information isn't fair. It's like saying you bought a cheese sandwich that clearly said it was a cheese sandwich and decided to blame the bakery because it's not a ham sandwich.

The problem with Steam is that you don't get the game, you only temporarily rent it. Recently Steam changed license agreement, and we all had a choice: bend over or lose all games. That's why I stopped liking Steam, because Steam may stop my games anytime.

I'd be surprised if non-drmed vendor would ever accepted returns.

Steam flaming aside...

How bizarre that people actually want DRM over no DRM???

*me boggles*

Then again people have been progressively getting dumbed down with all this automated crap. Time was when you needed a patch, you DLed a .zip, and went through the process yourself ;)

Oh noes! I have to wait 2.4736533 days longer on GoG to get a patch! Whaaaa whaaaaa whhhhhaaaaaaa!!!!
