Bren smiled as after a few minutes his rail gun cooled off
"So guys, want me to be the lead striker, my weapons can pierce shields so I can strike out enemy vitals and let you guys finish em off" he said, "I say I got around 3 maybe 4 shots of the railgun before it needs to cool off" he said (giving it that to balance)

Within minutes, the Rebels were crippled - leaving the Pelican to stock up on... supplies. The Mature tapped fuel from another Rebel ships reserves, gaining in total 3 jumps worth of the stuff!
"We only have one option for the next beacon..." Sarah's disembodied voice came in over the radio. "And I'm detecting a large disturbance in the gas in that area. Two large masses seem to be disturbing the natural flow of the gas, and some of the gas appears to be super heated."
"Black Holes?" Jake asked.
"I can't be sure from this distance, but I don't think so. Black holes don't generate heat. My guess would be that a star formed in the nebula, and is heating the surrounding gas."
"But what about the other 'large mass'" Jake asked.
"Well it's not nearly as large as the unidentified heat source. It also generates no heat. So not a star... but judging from the size, it could be a planet. It's very rare to find planets inside nebulas such as this. I suggest we take the Mature out to scout the area."
"Copy that. United Rogue Union, stay put. The Mature is scouting out the next beacon, we will report back to you ASAP."
With that, the Mature jumped away, leaving the Robin and Pelican behind.

Didn't Jake say he DIDN'T want the cannibal pirates to defile the bodies of the Federation or Rebellion whereas pirates were fair game? Because the Feds and Rebs were just doing their jobs and/or had no choice in their orders while pirates... are pirates.
While Jake had moved on ahead, Eden and her crew got to work with the salvaging of the disabled and destroyed ships. The Rebel bodies... what was left of them after the vicious assault were shifted into bodybags marked as "Tainted" to ensure there wouldn't be any midnight snacking.
"If there a planet within the nebula, what are the chances it'd have an atmosphere capable of supporting life?" Lux asked Bren over the comms "I mean the chances are it's been celaphformed... we are in a nebula after all and Slugs love doing that sort of thing in these sectors."
Give it a few years and it might start being labelled as a Slug Controlled sector, she thought to herself.

(Scarab LOL)
"Roger that" Bren said as he had his astromech drones work to transport his share of fuel and scrap from the battle
(I can see the repair drones having more then one use LOL)
"To be honest, who knows, I'm no scientist I just shoot stuff" he said chuckling

"I thought that considering your hatred towards Slugs... know your enemy?" Lux suggested, checking the blasters from the dead Rebels. "More ID locked weapons. I wonder if we can get someone who'll be able to remove them or at least put us on their list of approved users..."

As the Mutare materialized at the beacon, the star and planet were the only thing in sight. The star was nothing but a hazy bright circle, it's light partially blocked and reflected by the nebula. The planet was a dark area in the nebula. It was desolate and dead, no life was possible with the minimal light that reached the planet. "It's strange that a planet would be out here in the nebula." Kyrie gazed out the window at it, the hazy dark shape slowly rotating. "I wonder if there's anything on it."

Re: [FTL RP, GAME BEGUN, CHARACTERS WELCOME!] The Rogue Cadets
Jake pulled the ship in closer, and the dark mass revealed itself. Kyrie's assumption was correct. No life was possible. Not a single heat signature on it. The planet was cold and dead.
Jake pulled the ship in quite close, only 2 or 3 hundred kilometers away from the surface. He did a wide-band sensor sweep. The planet was composed mostly of obsidian, a material renowned for being a good scanning backdrop. In other words, any abnormality on the surface of the planet would be as noticeable as a candle in a pitch black room. The surface was not cratered, very few asteroids were in the surrounding nebula to contact the surface. Eerily smooth, probably sanded down after millions of years having nebula storms swirl around it.
And suddenly, the sensors picked up something. In an especially smooth land formation, a metal signature. A structure, of some kind. Jake took detailed scans of the object, and the collection of mini objects around it. On the metal object, there were signs of heavy chemical fire.
It almost looks like... rocket fuel... Jake thought as he ran a chem analysis. The smaller surrounding objects were simple metallic signatures - some kind of metal debris. One object had a metallic signature, and a faint signature of cloth, or cotton - or something of that nature.
A flag... Jake thought, analyzing the cloth object further. This large structure, some kind of launch pad. With a flag planted next to it.
Jake thought back to his world history class. The original lunar landings. It made sense - a set of lander legs left behind as the escape module ascended. A flag planted as a memory of an expedition. This is evidence of some early space program. Like early 'NASA' missions to the moon!
In awe, Jake almost missed it. He looked out of the window at the dark planet below. And over the horizon, he small a dark sphere appearing. A moon. And this moon was not lifeless. It had an oxygen rich atmosphere... and... lights. On some parts of the planet, surface-bound lights twinkled into view. Cities.
This was a populated world. A pre-FTL world, whose space program had extended no further than its closest neighbor, the main planet. A populated world, just beginning to ask the question 'are we alone?' A populated word, taking its first steps beyond its home. A populated world, completely oblivious to the outside galaxy by this nebula.
Jake didn't think. He probably shouldn't have done what he did. It violated on the rules. Every rule. Everything he had been taught would be violated on this day. But slowly, silently, never taking his eyes off of the window, he turned on the radio. It crackled to life, broadcasting on all frequencies. Without another movement, Jake said a single word into the stillness....

As the Scarab and the Pelican were in chats with one another, hiding out in the clouds, two ships had jumped into the area in the meantime, also oblivious to each other's presence before jumping again.woah, nice, but where are the zoltans and the rebels fighting over the right to speak to them first LOL
Perhaps they were just smugglers or maybe it was a more... hostile force.
There you go

"... and that's why I wasn't allowed in the arboretum after that incident" Lux had just finished explaining to Bren about one of her childhood mishaps on a starship her father served on.
