FTL won't open on Xubuntu. [Linux]

I just bought the game on Steam, just to find out that it won't open. The game spits out this error:

error while loading shared libraries: libIL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Any help would be very nice.

locate libIL.so

- the missing libraries should be in the game (sub)directories for amd64 and x86 - if not, something went wrong with installation. You can start and play the game outside the Steam environment, by the way.

How do you start the game? Maybe open a console, change to your FTL directory and ./FTL from there. I'm also getting nervous seeing blanks in file and directory names, so to be on the very safe side you could rename your directory to just FTL, as opposed to 'FTL Faster Than Light'.

Yeah, that is how I start the game. Also, changing the folder name to FTL did nothing, it still shows the same error

No clue then, sorry - the game runs fine on Linux Mint 17.x KDE here.

ah well, shit. oh well, i just installed xubuntu, might just use a different distro. Thanks anyway <3

Yep, now I just installed plain ol' Ubuntu and the game opens just fine. Very strange that Xubuntu was giving me such a hard time.

I recently switched to xubuntu some weeks ago and my favourite game, FTL wouldn't work with sound.

Problem was solved by removing the libstdc++.so.6 file from ~/.steam/steam/SteamApps/common/FTL Faster Than Light/data/amd64/lib
