Why is there no autosave/quicksave? Losing saved games also.

It is a massive oversight to not have an auto-save after you warp into a new sector or at least have a quicksave to avoid losing all your progress during a computer/game crash. It seems the save games are incredibly unreliable also. I saved+quit 3 times during a game, my computer crashed and i come back in to see no "continue" option, the button was greyed out and told me "No game existed".

This was incredibly frustrating and im going to give the game a break since half my losses are due to the poor save system. It was especially frustrating since my last game had potential to be a winner. Engi ship with Drone recovery, defence drone I, anti-ship drone II, and Hull repair plus a Halberd beam and level 3 shield and level 4 engines at 50% evasion at the 5th sector.

The autosave was working as intended. Once you load the save, it is desaved or something.

Hi Borge

It sounds like your game is crashing before it can write the savegame file to your hard drive. There is a file in the game folder called stdout.txt and there should be files in the crashlogs subfolder. You can send any crash reports to the devs at: zasdarq@ftlgame.com and you can also visit https://getsatisfaction.com/ftlgame to see if a solution for a problem exists.

ExtraCheesyPie is correct about the save file being removed once you choose to continue the game. If you really want to, you can backup this file so you can continue from it. It's saved in your MyDocuments/MyGames/FasterThanLight folder (Win7).

The reason for the Save system being so limited is that if you could reload the game after every fight that went badly, you would. And then every game would pretty much be a victory and it would remove the fear and challenge from the game. FTL is a semi-rougelike and typically in such games death means starting over, and there are usually no saves whatsoever.
