I mouseover every point of my route to check if the next is accessible.

but it doesn't show the connections until you get there... is there an upgrade/augment that changes that?

No need for upgrade or augment: after many players asked, the devs added a game option to show the paths between nodes. Once the option is activated (in the options menu), just put your mouse pointer over a node to the the connections.

Thanks for the tip.
Might be a good idea for that option to be turned on by default

The devs prefer the game with the option turned off (that is why there was initially no option), so this is unlikely to change.

Looking at the screenshot, you could have crossed your fingers and made the 5 hops (of death) to try and reach the exit from the upper beacon.
Since the option to view beacon paths was added in a later patch, it isn't immediatley obvious that it exists.
