This might be the most perfect roguelike I've played...

I'm hopelessly addicted, so please allow me to gush over this game for a minute...

When I say it's almost perfect for a roguelike, I think one of the best things this game does for the genre is eliminate pointless "popcorn" battles. In FTL, almost every fight is meaningful and requires strategy. This is definitely a breath of fresh air when compared to other exemplary roguelikes like Dungeon Crawl Stone soup where maybe 1 out of 100 fights is meaningful, but I'm not knocking DCSS, the pacing is great in that game, I just wish it didn't have quite as many dull moments. There's just never a dull moment in FTL.

As far as faults? Well, the graphics are a bit to be desired, but this is a roguelike afterall, and it's entirely forgivable considering the trappings of the genre and the outstanding gameplay. I really think some of the artwork and resolution could do with a bit of polish, but overall, I dig the retro art style and the music is amazing.

For this game to receive less than a 9.5/10 for a review is a crime.

If the graphics are getting you down, might I point you towards this thread?

It's pretty easy to install the mod and it really helps improve the look of the backgrounds.

Glad you're enjoying it so much, I'm always happy to see people having a blast with FTL. :D
