No experience gain with Ion-ed Shields

I don't know if this is technically a bug or a bit of a weird game rule but when my shields are partly ioned out (i.e. I have 3 shields; I get hit by an ion weapon; I still have 2 shields operational) the crew member that is manning the shields doesn't get experience for regenerating the other "functional" shields (i.e. If out of the 2 remaining shields one gets hit by a laser - the crew member operating the shields does not get an experience point when he brings the shields back up to 2 again).

No biggy, but I thought it might be worth knowing all the same.

If you look at your guy, he's stepping away from the console when shields are ioned. I can't remember now, but I believe the icon "station manned/unmanned" also turns hollow to indicate that.
This possibly means that not only he's not getting any xp, but worse: he's not speeding up shields recharge.

I never thought about this, but it's pretty crappy. I guess all the other stations work that way, though. One ion damage to a system prevents you from using the console to get the crew member bonus. It's especially annoying on a shield because that's the one that takes longest to level up of any of the four duty stations.

Exactly.

Well, unless you use the on-off trick and have ** operator by 3rd fight.

I tried the on-off trick once. It was tooooooo clicky. I only train up crew when I encounter an enemy that can't possibly damage me and walk away, to come back to max-trained crew.
