This was the slug boarding and stealing event, however he's left me unable to survive, due to minus 1 drones.

Is this a bug?

What effect this -1 has on you? Can't you just visit a shop and buy one to get to 0 ?

Depending on how far into the game he is, the Burst Laser 1 may not be enough to pierce shields/do damage, so without drones it's unlikely that he'll make it to a store.

That was sector 6. It should be recognised as a bug.

How I see it: slugs boarded you, stole all your drones and even ripped something from the drone control room. Now you need one drone part to repair it, before you even start using drones again.

The point is "how the -1 bug killed him?" If there would be no bug, he'd have 0 drones. How does this make any difference?
The -1 is still a bug , but a very, very, very minor one.

Definitely a bug, though I'm curious if it ever went back to 0. I'll make sure that doesn't happen.

I didn't wait to find out (posted the SS a few hours after it happened), the last 3 battles would have been impossible without drones, so I just restarted, it was sector 6.

To add to this, the I think the event subtracted from the fuel and missiles too; though I am sure you've got that.

I also just saw a crystal vengeance shard being shot down by one of my own defence 2 drones, though its possible it was an incoming shot, but i dont think so.
