Sound Issue

There's a strange squealing noise that comes out of one of my monitors when I load up the game. I normally play with headphones so I can work around it, but I've just noticed the same kind of noise coming from the onboard sound as well. This is game specific and the noise goes away when I close the game down, any ideas?

I've played both with speakers and with headphones, and not noticed any strange noise. You're also the first person to come to the forums with this issue, so it might be something specific to your computer and/or drivers.

What sound card (or sound chip) do you have? What operating system do you use?

I use a Saffire external audio interface, and I'm running it on Windows 7. It's certainly strange, Ive never encountered anything like this before, but as you say it might just be something to do with my computer. It happens when the sound sliders are all the way down too so I'm stumped.

I've done some research and I think the sound may actually be coming from my GPU, how that effects my monitors I don't know, and I'm still puzzled why it's only happening with FTL, but I think I can live with it.

By default, FTL generates as many frames as it can, which can put the CPU (and maybe also the GPU?) to 100% usage.

Have you tried enabling the v-sync option in the menu? It should make the game only generate one frame per screen refresh (50 or 60 per second typically).
