Number keys, weapons and dialogs

I really like FTL but there is one thing, that has been bugging me.
You can use the number keys to select a weapon and fire. In dialogs, you can use those same keys to select a dialog option. I have to say, I'm a pretty big fan of UI's that let you control most things with keyboards pretty quick. But the problem with the dialogs and weapons is, that I often want to select a weapon during a fight, but exactly before I press the button a dialog shows up and instead of selecting a weapon, you chose a dialog option...
This can be really frustrating. In one game, I was permanently understocked with my crew. And I blasted 3 opportunities when slave traders surrender to let a new crew member on board.
My workarounds to this problems were either to pause the game when selecting a weapon or selecting a weapon with the mouse. Before I noticed this probloem, I could easily handle most fights (especially in the first few sectors) without having to pause. But now this behavior really bugs me. The flow of the game gets interrupted to much (for me), if I have to pause for every shot I do. Before, I ususally selected the weapon before it was filled up and assigned a target, now I always pause, target, unpause...
It is a very small problem in an otherwise very great game (and also, I can live without this beeing fixed, but if there was a solution, for example to disable the number keys for dialog, i would be pretty happy).
