This happened on its first shot after their drone room recovered from my Ion Bomb.

Seen this too but was unable to capture picture with drone firing. It happens then drone is inside shield bubble usually.

It was pure luck, I was actually pausing to shuffle my boarding crew around

bumping this, as it still happens with both enemy drones and beam weapons. Rebel mothership just cut me into pieces through lvl 4 shields :/ R.I.P.

Not sure if this would work, but try de-powering your shield and re-powering it again, because it could be thinking the shields are down.

I saw this happen to my ship last night. (No screenshot.) The context seemed to be that I'd taken out their drone system on the ship, but they repaired it and reactivated the drone. The drone's first shot after reactivating is what hit my ship through my shields.

I was playing one of the Osprey and had only two levels of shields at that point. The shot hit toward the front of the ship, like weapons or scanners.

I'm not sure if it was actually the reason or just happenstance.
