FTL won't start

On steam when I hit play error 80 pops up in a steam message. Nothing else happens it just says error and won't let me play. Is it steams fault or do you know what the issue is?
Usually it will away on its own with a Steam / computer restart or just a bit of time. I've contacted Steam support about the issue but they've been less than helpful.
