Sound stutters, then ceases. [Solved]

I get to the starting menu, the music plays. Then it starts stuttering a bit and then drops completely. No sounds work after that point. This is only in FTL and the other sounds work fine. Any ideas?
Edit: I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that didn't solve the problem.
Edit 2: I have updated all drivers now too and nothing as well

What sound card do you have? What operating system are you using? Which version? 32-bits or 64-bits?
Which version of FTL do you use? From Steam, GOG, the web site? If from Steam, is this the regular version, or the recently released beta that fixes a few problems?

Xp 64, Steam install. Sound is a RealTek built in soundcard with a G35 headphone set. I downloaded the Steam Beta but I didn't notice anything change. Now its just playing the first tone of the menu song and going silent.

I used a registry cleaner and reinstalled my mobo drivers at the same time and that seemed to clear up the problem. Non FTL problem.
