it's a side project of one of the overhual mods in a way but those overhaul mods are basicly rewrites of the entire game to allow it to be more friendly or at least most of the game and those works were a bit to ambitious and even after all these years it's taking it's time and still will take a lot more time.
So there is no mod atm that can enable 2 player.

for your luck- this guy did revolutionary things with FTL and his goal is a multiplayer in the end:
