AI after it has been boarded

Post by Saymyname »

I have the expansion as well as the original game.

I notice that the AI doesn't attempt to screw you hard enough when you are using a strong boarding party strategy.

I'll give you a scenario. I have 2 Lanius crewmembers beam into the O2 room, and disable it. The rest of the crew of the ship are weakened from being hit by breach-1 bombs. Their medbay is on fire. But, and this is the big but in the discussion, their engines and piloting are both fine and manned.

The AI never thinks to simply spin up their FTL and get the hell out of there, thus taking your boarding party away with them in the off-chance that your teleporter isn't ready to pull them back.

This is especially glaring when you have superior shields to your enemy's weapons, and their weapon systems are undamaged. They have all the tools to save themselves and advance the fleet simply by jumping away and yet they don't.

They just sit there and suffocate. Thoughts anyone?

AI ships usually either surrender or flee with hull damage, not crew damage. Unless you have no fuel, then they try to leave you for the rebels.
I've grown Scales since I left. But now I'm soaring again. Off to save the Federation and have fun!

The game is rather limited in how the AI can be coded. As long as you avoid damaging the hull too much, the AI will sit there and suffocate.
There's no changing that part. How do you "script" crew damage and deaths anyway? Should a ship immediately flee if someone dies and is being re-cloned in a ship of over 4 people?
What if more than 5 people died on the ship but it was the same guy because of the Clone Bay and your boarding strategy kinda sucked? Should that induce a reaction for the enemy to flee?

Hull damage is the real killer after all
