Is it possible for a mod to add Lanius and Crystal Type C?

I know there isn't a type C for them and I've always wanted a mod that adds the Type C of the Lanius and Crystal (especially the crystal) but I'm not sure if it's even possible to add a new ship where the type C should go without overriding an already-present ship. Is it actually possibly for mods to be able to open up those two ship slots to add playable ships in them?

No.
Because those slots aren't actually "locked"; they just straight up don't exist. The graphic is only there as a placeholder. And as others have said, you can't make new slots.

You can't add new ships. You can only overwrite old ones.

I was pretty sure you had to overwrite it but I was just hoping there was a way to have them all at the same time...
