[Request] Civilian ship

Hello everyone,

Thanks to you guys, I realised my ideas where too complex to code so I want to start simple now ! ^^

1 - Yeah it's fun to crush your enemies with an OP ship but what about surmounting bigger obstacles due to an underpowered ship ? :D


"You are a space farmer/miner, a civilian being in the wrong place in the wrong time. When you arrive at your workplace beacon, you see a newly destroyed ship ! You rescue the captain that give you the rebel fleet's information."

No gadgets, no super systems, just the bare bones needed to do the job.
I want the ship to be at the minimum playable level. It need to be very difficult but fair for a skilled player. A dark souls ship edition if you want ! ;)

For example, the ship could start with : poor engines, poor weapon(s), medbay (?), small crew (1?), no shield.


To achieve this I ABSOLUTELY NEED an artist and a modder since the ship editor isn't updated !
That's not all, I also need you to give suggestions, advices and to do futur playtesting !

2 - Ok let's go crazy now, is it possible to do a ship without a weapon system ? ahah


WHATT IMPOSSIBRU !!!! Well, there are other methods to fight in this game luckily. Maybe a boarding or drones only focused ship or even a mix a both.

It's just a idea, once again I'm counting on you to tell me honestly what you think. You know the game much better than me after all.

I just want something different and I like good challenges in my games. :)

I really like that idea. Creating a ship that is perfectly balanced for a close but possible victory is going to be a challenge I guess. Other than that I support the no weapon system idea because it really needs you to change and adapt your playstyle to the ship. So my idea (yes its bold because it's also just an idea!) for the starting settings for the ship would be:

> engines upgraded to a capacity of 2 [It's a civilian ship. They need engines too ;)]
> shields not upgraded [Well you don't really need a shield as civilian]
> weapons not installed/upgraded [Same as for the shields]
> drone system upgraded to a capacity of 3 [Well the civilians use cargo-drones for transporting... well... cargo]
> teleportation (maybe) system [The civilians use them to meet each other on their ships (?!)]
> all other systems with a capacity of 1 [Doors, Cameras, O2, and the piloting systems are pretty much required for a ship to function]
> ship reactor upgraded to a capacity of 9 or 10, depending on the teleportation system.

Interesting ship.
Here is how I imagine them :

@ The basic civilian ship :

> crew constitued by 1 Human
> engines upgraded to a capacity of 2
> shields not upgraded
> weapons upgraded to a capacity of 1 or 2 [basic defense against pirates ;)]
> medbay (maybe) not installed [crew's quarters]
> all other systems with a capacity of 1
> ship reactor upgraded to a capacity of 7 or 8

@ The no weapons ship :

> crew constitued by 1 Mantis
> engines upgraded to a capacity of 2
> shields upgraded to a capacity of 2
> no weapon system at all
> drone system upgraded to a capacity of 3
> teleportation system upgraded to a capacity of 1
> medbay at 1
> Doors, Cameras, O2 are at 1 and the piloting systems at 2 [an AI control the ship and drones :D]
> ship reactor upgraded to a capacity of 13


A variant of the civilian ship could be a miner's ship where you start with a beam weapon and some drones ^^

Alright guys,

Thanks to the precious informations you gave me I created my very first mod, my first ship alone ! :D
The moddding tools are just amazing and so simple, really good job FTLovers !

The Civilian ship
Being in the wrong at the wrong time can change a destiny.

It's a varient of the smallest ship in the FTL universe, the human scout, with 2 more rooms.
For now, you start with :

> engines upgraded to a capacity of 4
> shields not available [but upgraded to 2]
> weapons at 2 with the 2 worst laser weapons [the Dual Lasers and the Basic Laser]
> Medbay at 1
> all other basic systems with a capacity of 1 [Doors, Sensors, O2, and the piloting system]
> ship reactor upgraded to a capacity of 6 [for 8 power needed]
> 3 augmentations [to adjust the difficulty and to be a emmergency scrap boost ;)]


WARNING : this is currently a prototype for gameplay testing purposes, the graphical quality is temporary !

I need you to help me playtest this ship in order to make the challenge difficult but possible !
