Currently trying to get the Mantis cruiser and run into an issue

i have the specs described on the ftl.wikia (Mantis crew member, teleporter and lvl2 Medbay), met him and won, but didn't get it anyways. I see two possible reasons.

1: one of my two Mantis crew members died doing the battle so maybe the game thought all died?
2: the battle ended with them teleporting their last crew to my ship getting slaughtered there, hence me not actually being on their ship at completion

Do you remember what text you saw when you won? And what your choices were?

Just bad luck.

I unlocked it without having a mantis, just a teleporter and lv.2 medbay. Though I did have two rock dudes on their ship, but that's pretty much everything.
