Hard Fought Victories

I usually (these days at least) only play when I'm recording, but I had a chance to play in an environment where I couldn't record, so I figured I'd give the Red Tail a try. So long as you get a couple weapons, it's pretty easy, I figured.
I got gifted a grand total of 6 weapons all game: 3 healing bombs, 1 fire beam, and a small bomb in sector *7*. There were *0* weapons in every store I went to until sector 8 (seriously) where I picked up a frickin heavy laser (It was that, a hull missile, or a Pegasus missile).
Along the way I picked up drone control and out of despiration a teleporter (this was supposed to be a laser spam run!), and I had a defense drone and 2 beam drones.
I used all but 3 of my bombs taking out the first phase. I was surprised I was able to actually do it, frankly. I chose to take out the entire crew when a lucky fire started in the shields and I was able to keep their medbay in the red. Even so I lost one of my two mantises and had to settle for a mantis and a human (My pilot) as the away team for the final 2 rounds.
Round 2 was the hardest because I had to use the defense drone to keep the boarding drones away and therefore only had 1 beam drone. I used all 3 of my bombs getting the shields down (the first two missed) but the 3rd set a(nother) lucky fire in the sheield room and that was it from that point on. I was granted *1* bomb for the final round, in which I used that bomb to take their shields down to 3, then fired my 3 lasers and set the beam drones to work in a crazy laser-laser-laser, hit-hit-hit, turn-on-the-drones volley scheme. Once I got their missiles down I sent the guys into shields and almost didn't have time to pull them back before the inevitable conclusion.
