Failing to launch FTL on Linux - 'No settings file found!'

Hello!
I've been playing FTL on Linux via Wine (so using the .exe file). However, since I'd like to use mods and I cannot get Slipstream Mod Manager to find the data.dat file (doesn't allow you to copy/paste the path to the requested file and I can't navigate to it without the option to modify the path), I thought I'd download the Linux version. I did that, had no problems until I tried to launch the game. Now, I'm no computer whizz, so please bear with me.
1) I unpackaged the folder and opened it up. I saw the following icons:

I double-clicked on the 'FTL' file but nothing happened. Checked whether or not it was en executable file and it was. I tried running it with 'OpenJDK Java 7 Runtime' and that still did nothing. I checked out the README file and found nothing useful.
2) I opened up the 'data' folder and saw a second 'FTL' file.

Double-clicked. Nothing. Checked executable, etc. Nothing runs.
3) Try running the 'FTL' file found in the 'data' folder pictured above using command lines and it came up with the following:

Visibly, something is wrong, but I'm unsure exactly what and I am unsure how to fix it.
Any help/advice is welcome and sought! If any extra details are needed, just ask away!
Cheers,
Euxcine
