2 Modding questions

As far as I can understand from let's play videos in youtube (I don't have the game), game progress is linear and after searching the forum it is stated that game is unmoddable when it comes to make game open world or sandbox

my questions are; as there will be an expansion, will it enable this kind of modding? if yes then I'll grab it from steam rightaway, if no then should I wait more expansions or addons or is it just impossible forever?

also in videos, ships hull is separate from subsystem hull so ship gets blown while subsystems are working, is it possible to mod them and tie them together? like the more subsystems get damaged the more damage hull gets but also when you repair subsystems you also repair the hull, basically no independent "ship hp", and "subsystem hp" replaces the ships hp and is dynamic (crew can repair the subsystem hp, which is hull hp)
or for example not tieing them but making crew able to repair hull real-time?

There is a mod that cleverly makes the game have a defacto 'exploration mode' with no rebel fleet.

It's called 'infinite space'.

with regards to the expansion, its going to be awesome, so you should buy the game anyway :)

Hull takes one point of damage every time a system is damaged, but other than that... i don't think there any ability to change that piece of hard-corded function. you should buy the game and try out captain's edition, its an combination of many mods that make the game better than it already was :)

I already searched the forum and learned about infinite space even before posting, but it seems it has limitations too, I will just hope that expansion will make the game more moddable and enable sandbox type mods to emerge

as for the second answer, guess I'll search more for mods that'll enable crew to repair the ship with only time as a cost...

Captian's edition has one augment in it's expansion called 'hull repair kit'.
It's awesome. it repairs your hull at an empty beacon for a price.
