Hello, and thank you for viewing my post.
Now I am very new here, so this may cast doubt about whether this post is legit, however I guarantee that it is, and that i have been using the forums for a while and only made a account to create this post.
Now, onto topic.

I am a fan of the TV series Firefly and the movie Serenity, realizing the similarity between Firefly and FTL gave an idea: I would create a FTL Firefly mod.

Here is the firefly class ship graphics I Created, One lit, and one not. Please comment on what one you like best: Image

A few edits still need to be made before I am completely happy with them.

I also still want to create reaver and alliance ships while recreating all events to create a more firefly feel.

I will keep you updated on my progress from time to time (I am somewhat inconsistent with keeping track of time)

As stated in the title i need help with this mod, I know no coding, any help with any part would be greatly appreciated.

Please feel free to comment, like and bookmark.

Todo List:
Create ship graphics X
Create ship mods X
Create events mod X
Write backstory X
change backgrounds X
other (yet unknown) X
publish mod X

Welcome aboard and good luck with the mod. For help check out the mod development forum and the superliminal topics. There's also some usefull links in the Master mod list. Finally you can also visit the IRC channel #ftlgame on QuakeNet and idle there. A few modders visit the chan so you can ask for advice or just talk FTL.

Best advice is to ask specific questions when you get stuck, keep backups of your resource folder and triple check your .xml files for typos.

I like the ship graphic a lot! You really captured the design, while also maintaining the FTL style. Suggestion: The midsection of the tail could maybe use some work and the tail in general could do with some shading to appear more round.

Are there any plans for how it will be armed? What kind of event modification do you plan?

Thank You UltraMantis for your advice I do appreciate it.

And Thank you Sleeper Service, for the praise and constructive criticism, I agree that work still needs to be done and I will post upload pictures whenever I think there has been noticeable improvement.

I have the very basic idea that as the ship is a transport ship it should have very basic weapons, like two burst laser's or similar, whereas on type B the shuttles could be removed and heavy guns replace them (not my idea, copied from an image on this website: http://thenewhorizon.webstarts.com/fire ... phone.html).

Also I was hoping to change the events so that you are running from the alliance, fight reavers rather than pirates and have many chances to make credits (scrap) from more appropriate illegal deeds (quests), maybe even some from the series or movie.

If anyone else has any suggestions to quests, ships or want to help please post a comment.

Take it in small steps, FTL modding has a steep learning curve (definetly fun though) and things go wrong often. Your first goal should be to make the ship playable and balanced to your liking, then you can expand on the mod with events. Trust me you'll have plenty to do :D

Also, i found Kieve's Obsidian Cruiser to be a great starting point when modding ships as it's well done and helpfull when comparing/learning about .ftl/.xml files.

OK, thanks UltraMantis,
I will take your advice and take it in small steps.
also I will publish the ship when I am happy with it, so everyone can play with it :) .
I am hoping to finish sometime within the next few weeks... however I don't expect I will.

Thanks again.
