Hey all,

So my FTL is crashing. This is what's going on. So I had an older video card. It was a Radeon HD 4850, the game worked perfectly fine. I then got a new video card, the Radeon HD 7970. Once I installed the new card and the new drivers, (CCC 13.4), and tried to start the game it wouldn't work. I have the game installed on Steam so once I click Play in steam it opens fine. I then proceed to do things on the menu screen and, what seems like at random intervals, will have the mouse freeze while over the game. Eventually the mouse will freeze outside of the game window and the screen goes black. It comes back usually after a few seconds saying, "Display driver has stopped responding but has recovered." To ensure it wasn't a hardware issue I tested the hell out of it by playing games that were graphic intensive, Farcry 3 and GTA IV... both on Max. I then got the same card from a buddy of mine and swapped it in to make sure it wasn't hardware related. Again, I ran the game before okay so I'm assuming it is the video driver. Another thing that happens is if I go to New Game and specifically go over the "O^2" (Or Oxygen) thing on the New Game screen it completely freezes my computer... like, sound goes all strange and need to manually reboot.

So anyone experience this or know of a fix?

CPU: I7 at 2.4GhZ
RAM: 12Gb
Old Video Card: Radeon HD 4850
New Video Card: Radeon HD 7970

Could you post the contents of stdout.txt and any crashlogs you may have? You can find the files in your FTL game dir.

Unfortunately the stdout.txt and stderr.txt are empty. Along with the crashlogs. I know that doesn't make much sense but it's the case.

So I've tried older drivers and they haven't worked. I tried one monitor and it didn't work. I tried making my primary a DVI and not HDMI and it didn't work. Anyone have any ideas please?

Still no fix for this i'm affraid. It could be caused by a subtle change made in a windows update. Most likely a new patch will be needed once devs figure out what causes the problem.

It doesn't affect many people, but it makes the game impossible to run, even though it worked previously. I don't think it is caused by your hardware or drivers and the machine is obviously powerfull enough to run the game.

Thank you for your reply UltraMantis. Coming from the world of software I understand that small things can quite easily break large things. I'll wait for the fix, hopefully it won't be to far in the future
