I was excited seeing a FTL update, but I was disappointed it was just a patch. Is there going to be added to FTL, or is it all up to modders?

It's likely all modding from this point, I'm afraid. The devs mentioned the possibility of a sequel, but it's merely a possibility. Fortunately, the modders are doing an excellent job given the limitations.
