MOD or NOT TO MOD thats the meaning of life.

Hello ladies, gents, bugs, slugs, and other species!

I, as a huge fan of roguelike games fell in love with this creation but i have a problem that i cant mod at all, i only barely read C++ and that is it  . But my heart is wants to fly and make this game as realistic as possible and i think some of you want that as-well.

 Dont get me wrong i love the game but i want something like instant death if the person is near the vacuum of space ( open door ) and he will be pulled slowly toward it when multiple are doors open because i mean im not that tough to stand still with tonnes of suction and still live. ( dont give me the 4 seconds till you die crap you know what i mean ;) )
and when stuff like a wild mantis boarded your ship and in rage sliced your crewman in half and that is it. I want more dramatic sort things for example "you went to secure some animals but the stampede has trampled one of your crew-mates to goop, without turning back you fled to your ship and mourned the dead" and that sort thing.

Solutions :geek:
1- teach me how to mod and i will do this 100% sure
2- someone mod this but they can contact me and i can do the text documents cause its the least i can do.

So please help me and all leave a comment or a message :D

I think that the space vacuum damage value is hard coded. But everything else you suggested is possible, especially the events. I must admit that I'm new to modding and I can't help you too much, but other people can and will help you a lot. Ask DryEagle about the events, and check out his gruesome mod too. Now for the realistic as possible you can draw pictures of the ships and make a mod which will replace the default ship images (if someone who knows modding replies to you, which is 100% possible to happen today).

That's not how vacuum works.
What Happens if Your Body is Exposed to the Vacuum of Space

Right now only a few things can be modded with the game: Ships, weapons, and events can be changed and new ones added but many mechanics are hardcoded into the game.

Okay thanks for the info with the vacuum. I'm not 12 so I can agree I was wrong. But what about depressurization ? Wouldn't that pull you out because all the air is leaving rapidly? Like that can happens on an airplane so I figured it can in space and I was watching alien the other day and the scene with the woman opening the airlock got me thinking as well.

Well, yes but that's nearly impossible. It's hardcoded too. But there is a project going on known as FTL:Overdrive which will allow modding in FTL being a piece of cake. It's a game rewrite so it will take some time until it's finished. :)

Vacuum isn't really harmful to humans, you pass out and eventually die because your brain isn't receiving oxygen, and this takes at least 30 seconds, potentially longer, depending on the person.

That's a film. Science fiction. Keyword fiction.

I am honoured that you posted something on my threat but i explained that i was mistaken and i was wondering about the decompression more than the death part, but if i am wrong then i am. But the topic still remains unanswered about making it more gruesome. I also have thought about re-arranging stations themselves in the hangar cause its not customizable at all, i mean one ship has the door control right near the lock if i wanted to choke someone i would have to open that right? but then they shoot the door and i have to walk my crew and potentially lose 1 member.

Note that there have been gruesome death due to explosive decompression, but they did not occur in space (going from 1 atm to 0) but in diving bells (going from many many atm to 1). The pressure difference was much greater... and you can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byford_Dol ... l_accident

Event text and outcomes can be changed however you like.
Crew animation graphics can be changed e.g. change the generic fall-over death to something more grisly. Just beware there is only one death animation for each race.
Game mechanics such as the effects of vacuum cannot be changed at all.
