Hey all,
I came up with an idea for an FTL race. I'm aware that adding a new race to the game via Mod isn't possible, however I thought i'd share what i've come up with anyway.
Gazoid

The Gazoid are strange beings from a distant galaxy. They are sentient lifeforms composed purely of gas. In order to survive off of their home planet the Gazoid have devised an airtight suit that stops them simply being sucked out into space.

Because of being composed of nothing but Gas, the Gazoid ships are not initially equipped with an O2 system. Boarding them would be a brave move.

The downside of this being other Races will not survive on your vessel unless you purchase an O2 system.

Ah, Good idea. i've no modding experience however i'd be able to create all of the sprites etc if someone is willing to implement it into the game for me?

I'm not sure it's possible to sprite ghosts, but i could be mistaken. If you are interested in spriting any of the characters you should look at the animation strips. You will need a tool to unpack the game resources (Dat Manager a good one). The strips are located in img/people. You can use the Dat Manager to delete files from the resource pack and replace them with edited files. This way you can quickly gauge wheter or not spriting is worth the effort, plus it will not require any coding.

Warning. Modifying resources without having clean backups is a terrible idea.
Also note that you cannot share resources but you can easily create a mod simply by placing your edited strips into /img/people then zipping up the img folder. As long as the zip file contains /img/people with your edited images, you can rename it from .zip to .ftl and it will be usable with GMM. Just get the folders and filenames right.

Racial abilities cannot be modded but sprites can be replaced (maybe names can be changed as well). There are very few mods that do this.
