lost vs the boss and never got such a lucky run again lol

I once unlocked three ships in this run.

The other day, in my only winning run to-date, I unlocked three ships (or two, if you don't count an alternate layout). I had defeated an enemy ship without using the Ion gun in the first encounter I had in order to unlock the Engi Layout B. A little luck with an event later on got me the Zoltan ship, and then beat the game to unlock the Federation Cruiser.
