Enemy not being targeted by asteroids (1.03.1)

Hi, just had a playthrough where:
* I was Mantis B (4 mantis, 3 engy) with no weapon equipped.
* Enemy was a Zoltan energy ship with a Zoltan shield. (Zoltan controlled sector)
* In an asteroid field.
My first thought was... oh man, FTL time. Then I saw it was an asteroid field and thought.. that's lucky, the asteroids will get the Zoltan shield down..
No asteroids hit their Zoltan shield. I was watching their ship from start to finish (my ship was destroyed before jump became available) and no asteroids appeared on their side. Not even they appeared and were evaded, they didn't even appear. I sat there until I died watching their ship like a hawk to see if an asteroid would even spawn on their side, but it didn't. I should note that I haven't had this issue before vs. Zoltan shields in asteroid fields.
This is v1.03.1, on Steam.
PS I absolutely adore this game, I have 50+ hours clocked on it so far, a pleasure to play, really well done on a brilliant concept and design and execution <3
