How about there is a hard mode added, where a rebellion fleet will approach from the other end of the screen. Loot drops are signifigantly changed, where instead of only getting fuel for having a run in with the rebellion, you get good loot. After a bit, the two sides collide, and a number of beacons appear in the middle as downed cruisers, which drop much more scrap when defeated. This would just be a sort of battle of the cruisers, but the final zone would serve in traditional fasion, where being slow about getting things means getting wrecked.
Most of this is impossible to do with XML modding. Also, this mod takes place before the rebellion.

I have a number of releases in the completed mods forum. I have no intent to - or reason to - release my WIP materials to anyone.

Whale's Disease, why is your signature not updated, and I'd like to know if this is now being worked on again since it's after Oct. 25th. I'm looking forward to this mod so much!

Hey!
I just got a few questions.
-When you play as a pirate, will you be hunted by the police when inside a already colonised/explored star system?
-Will there be class related events? Eg, if you have a small fighter, you can evade a battle as an option.
-Will there be an option in the menu when starting the game to choose between this FTL and the original?
-Are you still working on it?

Signature updated! Expect the skeleton mod to be released by the end of the week (all the quests and combat encounters, but few mundane repeating encounters [these are boring to work on, to be honest]).
I think I mentioned upthread that I dropped the sort of pirate subgame because it ate an augment slot and nearly doubled the complexity of coding events.
Ship class related events are impossible, but each ship class has different starting and maximum ship's systems. These mean that only certain ships will ever be able to even possibly have certain bluetext options. That's a close as I can get to class-based events under current xml.
There is no way to add an option to the game menu, let alone one to switch mods. Grognak's Mod Manager makes switching mods or switching to vanilla easy enough.
I am still working on it, but with less enthusiasm and less time (to be perfectly honest). When I started I had a few weeks off, a luxury I don't have at the moment.

so the outcast varietnt won't have a use that differs them from the others?i loved the thought of an entire faction of pirates. whatever.
