Yes, I suggested something like this when the idea of using ghosts as holographic crew came into existence.

Marker 1 is a tough auto ship.
marker 2 is an auto-terminator
Marker 3 is a new Auto-Construction yard positioned near a sun!, equiped with a teleporter , and upon entering the fight when it hits 75% health an event triggers that makes 8 ghost crew appear on your ship, when they get low health they teleport back to the auto-construction yard and repair any breaches.
Auto-construction yard is a auto-station...no oxygen....lots of guns shields and defensive drones only.
The good ones too, no light missile defense drones. Only sys repair, anti-personal, defense and defense II drones.
this would make it different from the usually high-damage low-health auto-ships, instead make it a tanky self-repairing -resistance to boarding-action ship....cleverly taking advantage of its natural resistance to the sun.
HOWEVER it cannot move as it is a station, and if you fail to stop it's FTL drive from self destructing you take 30 damage.

For use in the engi sector, like the new minefields, these are custom danger zones.
bits of scrap metal, scrap ship parts and the like are flying around, acting like asteroid fields, but they do shield pen 1 and shield-piercing damage (no fire)
Make a background and a new gun that 'fires' scrap metal at both ships.....maybe that could work?

1 LET THEM GO (this is already in the game btw).....then you get a RANDOM AUGMENTYou release the captives and they are grateful. They thought they were going to die.
They offer to join your crew, but only one of them has the right credentials.
1. Release them all! and shout "!FREEDOM!"
1. You accept the Mantis crewmember. He licks his claws.
2.You accept the Zoltan crew member. He places his palms together and bows
3.You accept the Engi. His Head-txt reads "[Mission: ACCEPTED]"
4.You accept the 2 humans.
2, and 3 could be have an element of randomeness to them if you changed the wording on the events in different secors.....but if it says mantis you get 1 mantis. etc etc. So in zoltan space you get zoltans......etc etcOne of the now free captives hands you a data disk they had hidden on them. It the location of some high-tech equipment nearby! [Reward: RANDOM AUGMENT]
then load the next one
And if you chose the two humans...
. 1 human comes aboard, the next one......[+1 human]
.....2,...follows right behind them. [+1 human]
