That's a fine ship you've got - don't mind if we procure it..." The Mantis cut transmission and began firing.

Jake wanted to look friendly, so he had ordered shields and weapons offline. He got on the comms. "Shields up! Evasive maneuvers! Bring all weapons online!"

The 2 shield bubbles quickly arose, followed by the Purple Shield, slowly charging up to full. However, it was too late. The first of the Mantis's shots hit the ship. The other two were blocked by the two normal shield bubbles. Before the Mantis's weapons recharged, the Purple Shield had charged up, to full power. Their defenses were up, with minimal damage. But the Mantis was powering up a very scary looking missile weapon. The huge missile fired, and (luckily) violently exploded against the purple shield barrier. The missile was so strong that it took out half of the Purple Shields energy.

An in-space nuclear weapon! They've been illegal since the Federation/Mantis conflict! Jake thought in dismay.

To Jake's horror, a Rock vessel hailed the Mantis ship, and Jake tapped into the transmission. "That ship is ours, Mantis scum!" The Rock vessel said to the Mantis Fighter. Then, a massive Slug ship joined the conversation. "Both of you are wrong, this ship belongs to me!"

All three ships were firing upon Jake, and he watched as the Purple Shield rapidly depleted. It held out longer than I expected, but it's gone now! Jake thought as the Purple Shield vanished.

"Guys, I need those weapons online. NOW!" Jake shouted into the comms.

However before the their weapons could go online the Rock Cruiser that they first talked too transmitted

"You three are in vololation of our stations rules...prepare to die!"

And Jake could see all the missiles batteries on their ships fired, it must have fired 12 missiles at once, and so quickly, 3 missiles hit each ship right on their engines, weapons, and shields

And now all three captains were panicking begging for their lives.

"Human head to the port, we will take care of these fools. Tell them you were attacked and we will give you a reasonable discount on the repairs. Tell them Captain Obsidian sent you" he said smirking

(yeah there is a reason you don't fuck with them. for the record his ship would have basically top tier multi-missiles with auto reloaders, explosive replicators and weapon pre-ignitors, their artillery is also missiles. Yeah the bouncers take this job seriously)

But Bren and Ruwen arn't on the new ship...

(no I mean the bouncer took out the enemies as you passed and are the stations guest. Sorry if I wasn't clear. Basically since you were coming here to spend your scrap/money they have the obligation to protect you. )

Ok, it's fine for just this once, but in the future please try to stick to writing as your character. The story should be player-built, meaning that (in this case) the crew of the new ship would decide on what happens aboard, while your landing party thingie would decide what happens where you are. You can't just randomly take control of NPCs when your characters don't have a role in the action. See what I mean?

It's ok for now, just please try to refrain taking control of NPCs when your character(s) isn't involved in the action. It's ok to write as NPCs when you are a central part of the action (like Jake did when piloting the new ship) Just keep that in mind for the future!

No problem! (Even though you made the Bouncer NPC, it's not like... a REAL character. Sort of like those Slug intruders - their actions were dictated by the people in contact with them.)

Jake was surprised that the Pirates had this much... structure... He thought it was more of an 'everyone for themselves' mentality. In reality, Jake was a little disappointed that he didn't get to blow those pirates to bits with his fancy new ship. But, it was probably for the best! Jake signaled the others. "We had a little fight, but no one got hurt. Minimal damage. We're going to dock and browse around the stores a little."

Sorry for the long post, these space stations are interesting.

Kyrie had a little time to inspect the shield room as they approached the pirate station. The floating shield core was the highlight of the room. It glowed blue, and gave the whole room a blue tint. Kyrie reached out and touched it. It felt slightly warm, and made her hand tingle. She turned her attention to the holographic display, encompassing the whole room. A few of the formulas were familiar, others she had never seen before. First learning the old systems, now the new ones.

She moved the display to the right, and found the whole display moved. Jake said he could control the drones through thought. I wonder if the shields work that way too. Kyrie... willed? the shields to come up, but nothing happened. Oh well. I guess we can't have everything. By that time the ship had docked at the station and they were free to get off.

Kyrie went to the open airlock they used to dock and stepped out into the station. The main area was filled with all races. There were slavers pulling around slaves, people selling personal weapons and others just ignoring it all. Kyrie looked around in amazement and started walking around, seeing all the sights. A slave dealer called out: "You there! You got a job that needs doin? I've got the slave for you. We got rocks, engi, humans, even a mantis in the back."

Kyrie responded:
"Uhh... No thanks, don't need one."

"Oh, I see. You're looking for something specialized. I know just what you need." The slaver brought out a human. He was muscular, very attractive, and also mostly naked. "Whataya say? Last owner said he's great in be-"

"No thanks!" Kyrie walked off quickly in the opposite direction.

Another booth had a number of bags of powder open on a table. Intrigued, Kyrie approached the table and looked at the powders, each of a different grain and color. The shopkeeper came up:
"What ya here for? Something to calm the nerves? Or something with a little more kick?"

"Um, I don't know yet. What's this?" She pointed to a thick black powder.

"Ah this is one the rocks like. Its called Vraxhon. It's injected, and has a real electrifying feel to it." The keeper smiled. "You know what? Just for you, I'll weigh out half a gram for free." He pulled out a little with a small scooper and placed it in a clear bag, holding it out. "Come see me again. Enjoy."

Kyrie took the bag and wandered off. Soon she found herself in a bar, surveying the drinks. The bartender, a slug, poured her a shot of something called "One Hit Wonder." Normally, she wasn't one to drink, or consider buying drugs for that matter, but if felt ok here. She downed the shot, and immediately her eyes and throat burned like a blue star. "What was in that?!" The slug just laughed. The next thing she knew, Kyrie was trading her shoes for a bottle of it and taking swigs on the way out. Feeling more of the effects of the drink, She wandered more. Kyrie traded a lock of her hair to a hair collector for an old watch, then cut the federation insignia off her uniform and traded it for a long piece of Ebony wood, then the watch for something called a piggy bank. Then she saw Lux nearby and yelled out in a slurred voice: "Lux! You got to try this stuff!" She stumbled up and shoved the bottle of One Hit Wonder into Lux's hands, then held up the bag with the Vraxhon in it. "I bet we've never seen a moon like this one. I'd pay to go there. Too bad it's in a bag."

(Ok that was funny, you earned todays award for best post, now then my turn for a long ass post with a bit of character dev)

Over with Bren he was carrying the ships data pad with all the info on what he had and what he was willing to sell, the Pike Beam was a maybe but the 120 scrap total, give or take a couple was up for sale

"Lets see gotta find a person who could tune up a ship' he muttered

"Hey buddy you need a tune up, I can tune up everything" Bren turned to see a Slugman in what could be considered overalls smiling at him

Bren gave a glare at the slug

"Beat it, I don't deal with slugs" he said

"Ah bad past, can easily read that on your mind" he said, Bren froze and then turned around slowly to face him

'I'm sorry did you read my mind...?" he asked in a cold tone

'No easily can read it on your face, look calm down, I get it, my race love to cheat people, but me, I think an honest days work is better, less likely to get shot...now then I did read some surface thoughts but I think the whole damn station could read them. You got 2 slavers on board, you were a former slave, and you are thinking of strangling me...that it?" he asked

Bren sighed

"You got it...look why are you trying to be nice to me, your a slug, surprised you aren't trying to cheat me out of my scrap or my ship or even my freedom' he said folding his arms

"First off, need a license here to be a slaver, pretty expensive, 2, not stupid enough to piss you off cause clearly you are the kind of guy willing to try and kill me despite the many rockman guards here, and 3, I want to help you show not all slugs are bad just like not all Zoltans are law abiding goody goodys"

"Zoltans are far more hon-"

"Yeah yeah honor, law and reason, but listen if you were a former slave then you should know not every zoltan is gonna act like the others...we all have the potental to be something different...now then do you need me to tune up your ship, I'll even direct you to a bounty office to take care of the slavers" He said, "Been having trouble with slavers targeting potentional customers near here lately" he said

Bren sighed and gave in, "Alright then, let me see what you can offer" he said checking the nearby terminal for the options.

Bren opted for the boost in the reactor, shields, and weapon power, not to mention tuning up the systems and repairing the hull. Costing them all 120 scrap and the pike beam. The final results would mean 2 layers of shield, and what was in essence 2 more power units for the weapons (meaning a total of 4 power slots) and the reactor would be able to handle them.

However after telling the slug (named G'llorda, or Gordan for those who can't really pronounce the slug name) he was directed to the bounty office.

"Alright then, but before you go into the ship let me come with you, we have someone who might not trust you too much ok" Bren said

"Umm alright then, gotta get my tools anyway, you said you had a weird weapon, well I've seen plenty of weapons I'm sure I can install it" he said chuckling a bit going back into his office, Bren took the time to head to the bounty office and after some quick discussion got 30 scrap for the two slavers. So 30 scrap left over from all these upgrades, repairs, and what not for whatever they needed. Didn't even need to use the credits they had...

Bren had to admit he was glad not to be robbed today, he didn't trust Gordan too much, but at least he seemed on the up and up. And hopefully he would install the new weapon properly (crystal burst mark 1)

Apologies for typos, in typing this on my phone because i'm in the car...

Jake wondered the massive station. Sounds of people laughing, crying, eating, and drinking filled the whole complex. Smells of fresh meat and not so fresh meet filled the room from the markets. Incredible.

Through the crowd, Jake located Bren- calculating the scrap totals and upgrades for the Robin, based on available prices. He looked at Brens pad, and let out a long whistle. "Jeez! I assume we got that crap ton of scrap from the destroyed Fed fleet? You're sellin' the Pike Beam?I guess we don't neeed it anyways. Good luck with the upgrades!"

Before Been could reply, Jake noticed an obeise human woman selling... "ICE CREAM? I LOVE ICE CREAM!" Jake screamed merrily. He ran over to the stand, Fed credits in hand.

"I got a bunch of Fed credits," Jake said to the scowling, aged lady standing there. Seeing a human that, for once, was not trying to scam her, her sour look brightened-just a bit"

"Those authentic?" She asked.

"Straight from Earth!" Jake said.

"300, for a scoop" she said. (Credits are very inflated)

Jake handed the lady 3 100C bills, and selected a chocolate ice cream. The lady gave him two scoops, saying "I'll throw in for a 'distinguished officer' like you"

"Thanks!" Jake said, and sat on a bench near the ice cream shop. He sat there, watching slavers, pirates, crooks, thieves, killers, and phycopaths walk by.

Jake lazily sat there, eating his ice cream- which tasted incredibly good after months of synthetic food. He had to hold his breath to refrain from bursting into laughter, when a green Mantis came crawling past, wearing a ball gown. He pulled out his comm unit, snapped a photo, and transmitted it to Bren. He knew that Bren would find that funny.

Bren was most likely Jake's best friend, when Jake thought about it. Jake couldn't really relate to WOL, he had the whole "robotic" mentality. This wasnt to say that Jake didn't like WOL, they just didn't relate well. Lux was also a good friend, but lately she seemed to keep clear of Jake. It could just be his imagination, though. Jake didn't know Kyrie that well, they simply didn't talk much.

As for new friends, Ruwen fascinated Jake. Jake would love to talk to Ruwen, but Jake was of course much younger than Ruwen. Ruwen was an adult.

This made Jake think about Sarah. Also fascinating, Jake found that he really liked Sarah. Quite a lot, actually. At the same time, he felt sorry for her- trapped on the ship 24/7, in the ancient past. The only one of her kind. Jake would make a point of getting to know her, more.

Over with Bren he was watching some Rockmen and a slug man in a business suit take away the two slavers out of their airlock.

"Alright then, thanks for doing business" Bren said as they walked off

Gordan was in the weapon bay working, he was surprised to see Ruwen but after a quick transfer of the ship's translation data to his personal translation device all was well and he was working with Ruwen to install the new Crystal weapon

"Very interesting weapon ya got there big guy" He said finishing up

"Yes, it is a very simple weapon to us but I suppose to you it is very advanced. Using the crystal growing technology we have we can create synthetic crystals to launch at opponents, very useful during our wars" he said

"Wars huh, veteran, uh mantis war?" Gordan asked wiping his brow

"Whats a mantis?" Ruwen asked

With Bren he checked his com link and saw the message with the enclosed picture...

Cut to outside of the station where Captain Obsidian is working on salvaging the ships of the now dead trio, when they all heard the sound of Bren's laughter.

"Sir I thought sound didn't travel through space" one rock crewman said.
