On my desktop FTL should be on the latest version since steam updates it. The version on my laptop which works is from GOG and on 1.5.4
Any chance your desktop isn't on 1.5.4?

Can you download 1.5.4 and try to patch EL on it?

I think we just found what was causing the issue

The devs may not be using the latest version.

Seeing as people seem to be talking about crashes at the moment seems a fair time to get some info up about one I had today trying to play with CE.
I installed all the mods in the correct order using SMM and then ran the game. After the loading bar filled up I got a dialog popup talking about an Assertion error, and something to do with the file rapidxml.hpp There wasn't really much more of an error message other than that.
I redownloaded the installer (humble store purchase) and reinstalled the game (v 1.5.10), repatched with the mods and got the exact same result.
Old-school OS here, Windows XP SP3, if that helps anyone

Am using an Asus zenbook UX32VD
I'm guessing that the version of FTL should be updated to 1.5.4 in order for EL to work.
Thanks to Nicb1 for posting the right clue.

Assertion errors generally come from corrupted game source files, friend. Make sure you delete, the backup files in the SMM backup dir, upgrade your FTL version to 1.5.4 and try again.

@rannl
I'm a bit confused atm. I'm thinking, that 1.5.10 is the latest version, or?
