Hmm.... i know what im ganna do >.>, but let me do a little math...

Shields max is 8 energy bars, 2 Defence II is 8 energy bars, so drones balance out, if you get the weapon preigniter, then it will help out alot, For the weps prob a Blaster III or something on those turms, and use a Fire Beam, or Glaive to KO them... on the Boss, Teleporting is the most important... takeing out the Missle, then Laser, then Beam is a good idea... with a 55% chanec to dodge.... all this hopeing >< im saying GL, and wish me luck.

And is it just me, or does anyone else have a problem earning scrap with the Stealth Cruiser A? I'm allways broke, allways missing crucial upgrades, and allways damaged.

I took the Rock Plating primarily for the intra-fight protection - without shields, hull damage can chip away at you, which Rock Plating will help prevent. I'm not sure how much hull damage the repair arm adds, but my guess would be "less than Rock Plating will protect you from".

Well I tried again, got to the second phase of the boss again, and died on the drone wave again. This run through was an uphill battle all the way though, I had better weapons, but not near as much upgrades on my other systems so I really had no chance of actually winning. Will have to try again later.

The only time I beat the fs was with the Zoltan B, and i did not buy any shields. this, of course, was on easy.I had maxed weapons and engines and i picked up a cloak and drone system en route. 1 boarding drone, halberd beam, ion bomb, and a heavy laser II
crew was 4 zoltan, a rock guy, a mantis and 2 humans i got from unlucky slave ships:(
had zoltan shield(does that count?), pre-loader and stealth weapons
for phase 1:
send boarding drone to cockpit, ion bomb the cloak first(adding the ion damage to the initial de-cloak ion damage) then ion the shield. used the halberd beam to hit cockpit, shield and one of the inside guns. keep.
for phase 2:
basically the same deal except boarding drone to his drone system. and ions on the shield and cockpit alternatively, halberd on the cockpit, shield and one of the inside guns.
for phase 3:
the ion + an alpha from the heavy laser II will wreck his zoltan shield. but i dont use the laser most of the time cause of power constraints
this is where cloak was most useful compared to shields. use cloak to dodge his powersurge bullshit. boarding drone to O2, ions on the shield and halberd in the same place.

i sometimes move the halberd around to cause damage in other parts of the ship but usually thats where im hitting. the cockpit, shields and a weapon. all in all, i would say it was entirely based on luck. not getting hit at key times and shutting down his evasion. preloader is mega nice too.

sadly i have been unable to replicate this success with the stealth ship which sucks lol

@ultramoose The zoltan ship starts with level one shields, so no, that wouldn't count.

Zoltan Ship B, does not come with a shield system installed, it only has the Zoltan shield itself.

Actually, the Zoltan B starts with one point in shields. It's not enough to raise a normal shield, but the system's still present.

Then its a ship without shields,eh?Green shields are pretty terrible and fall down way too quickly to be a help against beam drones.

Anyway, good luck trying to make it through boss stage 2.A single screw up,lucky hit into stealth room,bad timing and swarms of laser drones will cut you some cheese.If someone makes it through without any sort of shields,you are one tough,stubborn nerd who deserved a medal.

Just managed to beat the game with stealth cruiser type A, it helped allot that I've managed to get 3 Burst Lasers MkII that in combination with the stealth weapons, automated reloader and hull repair drone.

In the first phase I've just focus fired the lasers on weapons and usually one burst was enough disable them and to set the room on fire which would then kill the guy manning the weapon.
I've only run into problems in the second phase but after a second attempt I just cloaked the ship before the fight and focused fire on the shields and at the same time I just had to make sure that hull repair drone is always active to reduce the damage done by the enemy drones.
For the third phase I've did the same thing I did in the second phase, also it helped that by then there was only 3 guys left on the enemy ship, 2 of which teleported onto to my ship.

here are the saves before the each fight if anyone wants to try it out

the zoltan b layout only has 1 point in shield. it cost 100 scrap to get the second point which gives you an actual shield. so i didnt have a functioning shield system. you can even put power into it. There is no shield to speak of, excluding the zoltan shield ofc.
