Meanwhile, Kyrie was back in the shield room making sure everything was as she left it. The incident with the rebels had got her thinking. If the rebels can create and stabilize two singularities like that, what’s to stop them from having even more than that? It seems they’ve perfected the technology enough to use it as an actual weapon without destroying the ship that starts it. That gives them an even bigger advantage... They’d have to end the rebel’s development of the weapon soon if they wanted to succeed.

For now Sarah is only partially online. Jake was intentionally slow with repairs to the Mind Control portion of the helm. (Shameless attempt to fix a gigantic gaping plot hole, as big and as obvious as one of the Rebels Black Holes.)

Sarah deactivated her sensors in the medical room, puzzled by this. She also realized that her telepathic systems were left unrepaired. She would make a point of fixing them tonight when others were asleep, so that she wouldn't intrude on ship operations.

"So, Bren..." Jake said, calmly. He was very adept at hiding the whirlwind of emotions inside of him, and maintaining his composure. "What's up?"

"They surrendered...so tell me...What were you thinking launching them into the Station?" he asked

"They felt the tether and traced it back to your ship, they didn't know what was happening and many lives were lost" he said

He could see Jake's reaction....and his face softened

"...they are happy that the weapon was destroyed...and will be honoring the fallen ones...but....they are afraid of you, they want to help but don't trust you" he said

Ruwen nodded his head, 'They believe in self sacrifice, and those whose lives were lost will be honored...but you commited a murder....'

Bren nodded his head, "Normally I'd have to follow Zoltan protocol as well as Federation protocol and place you under arrest...however...."

He sighed

"I could hold off from that after we are done...do you accept this?" he asked

Jake was shocked. Totally shocked. "Yes... Yes I understand," He said. "The Lanius are still willing to ally with us?"

"They are...however again afraid of you, they will only take orders from me and Ruwen...I'm willing to relay orders from you and say they are mine but...listen, what you did...I don't know what you were thinking, get rid of two enemies, for the greater good. or something of a desperate move...." he put a hand on Jake's shoulder

"But I know I wouldn't have been able to make a decision in time if I were in your position, so know even if I have to bring you in...I support you" he said nodding his head

While the conversation between Bren and Jake was happening, Eden quickly had to excuse herself from training Lux to check the helm's console.
"But what about..."
"He'll be fine, Luxanna. Just take very deep breaths if you're worried" Eden replied "I gotta take this call."

At the console, a typical distorted holographic figure appeared with a deep, synthesised voice in order to conceal their identity.
"We have a problem."
"Kinda figured if you're calling like this it's not for lunch plans" Eden snarked.
"Need I remind you of the situation in the Zone?"
"I can't help it if the fleet I'm travelling with attracts every bit of danger it can like AG system within an asteroid field" Eden said "Don't worry yourself... things are being set into motion."
"Good."
The hologram vanished and Eden breathed a big sigh of relief...

Dun dun dun! Maybe the nature of Eden's contact will be revealed in a later sector?

Jake nodded, and without another world, retreated to the crew quarters. As he entered the blackness of the room, he could swear that he saw a figure. A humanoid figure. Standing there... watching him. But when he turned on the lights, it was gone.

Jakes heart was pounding. This was the second time... But when he turned off the lights, nothing returned. No sign of any shadowy figure. Slowly, quietly, he fell asleep.

While the crew slept, Sarah materialized in helm control. She got to work repairing the Telepathic Nodes of her circuity. Within minutes, she watched power whiz into the circuit. She smiled - but then, only a few seconds later, she saw visions of Lanius ships exploding. Shiny metal torn apart against Rebel hull. And sitting at the controls, was none other that Commander Jake Collins, of the United Rogue Union.

"Jake..." she whispered, the visions fading. Jake had used the innocent Lanius ships as weaponry. Slaughtered them. And Bren... According to Jake's mind, Bren knew about it. And Ruwen. And the Lanius.
"Oh my..." She said. "Oh..."

Sarah disappeared from the Piloting deck, and materialized in Jake's quarters. "Jake!" She said. Usually, he would've dragged himself away from sleep, groaning. But now, he sat bolt upright, soaked in a cold sweat.

"I know..." She began, softly.

Jake was panting, he looked around in the darkness, the only light emitted by Sarah's glowing form.

"You can't tell the others." He said, gasping for air.

"I won't. But why?"

"It was us, or them." He said. "And if we fall... the galaxy falls with us."

There was a long silence.

"For what it's worth, I think of you as a hero. And your crew does too. You're a hero, to everyone." Sarah said.

Jake looked up at her, his eyes weary.

"No one is a hero." Jake said, coldly.

Bren returned to his ship and sighed a bit

"So...will you really turn him in when this is over?" Ruwen asked

"...don't know...maybe I will...maybe I won't, depends on what happens next" he said calmly, Ruwen nodded his head and returned to his quarters

The next day, Jake awoke - weary from the night before. He had slept - but it wasn't rest full sleep. Too many dreams. Too many nightmares.

"Allright! This is Fleet Commander Jake Collins calling the United Rogue Union. Rise and shine, people! We've lost precious time, so I want us to get started early! Next beacon appears blank. We'll see, though."

Is this the Exit Beacon? If so, I can revise.

Bren yawned a bit from his seat, "I'm up, ready for this, how did the repairs go, those Lanius know how to do it" he said

Eden looked at the beacon ahead and then the choices of their next destination. "The Theocracy of Numa?" she asked "I heard the Grand Basilisk of Numa V is a very treacherous Rockman... or was it lecherous?"
Lux chuckled "Maybe he's both? Well let's just hope he doesn't take an interest on us."
"Or we could choose not to go into his territory and pick another sector..." Eden said, bringing up the map. "It might take longer though... and we've lost a lot of time here"
