I don't like DLC, and would most likely not buy it.

I would rather see this game be more heavily moddable rather than get DLC for it. I'd buy the DLC though, just to support the devs.

More heavily moddable would be nice.

I'd like to make a roleplaying mod for the game, where your actions impact your status with factions & you can play the game in a variety of ways: pirate, slaver, rebel, trader, smuggler, military, bounty hunter, etc.

OK here's my thoughts:

Point 1: Considering the cost of the game, no DLC should cost more than $2. For smaller DLC such as additional graphics (new character art!), weapons, ships, etc. the max should be $1. For larger DLC (say a DLC that added 3-4 new systems complete with unique events etc.) $2 would be acceptable. Anything more than that should be labeled as an expansion pack.

Point 2: There are many different kinds of DLC- some are for the more dedicated folks (the lower cost $0.50 - $1.00 kind that just add aesthetic stuff like new art) whereas others change up the game.

Point 3: Do not release ANYTHING that was a pre-order bonus, or a bonus for the kickstarter folks. Nothing pisses me off (mind you I didn't pre-oder this one, but I'm standing up for those who did) more than when a company offers an "exclusive" bonus, than sells it as DLC down the line- Ive even considered legal action in one case. Exclusive pre-order bonuses means that its something you can't get if you don't pre-order... in some cases I've pre-ordered specifcally to get such a bonus item etc. because I knew I wouldn't be able to later. Otherwise I would have waited for the game to go on sale a month later..... garrr... sorry had to vent that.....

Point 4: I'd much rather see a full-fledged $10 expansion than a bunch of small DLC. For an expansion I'd expect nothing less than doubling the size of the game, with multiple new races, ship types, enemies, etc. -- Ideally tacked on (and intermixed) with the original campaign.

Point 5: Did I mention new character art?

I think that's it..... if I think of anything else I'll add it below.

I think an "Artbook' dlc would be good. Either adding it for viewing in-game, or in the folder.

So we can look at all the art, not just Gog users and kickstarter members.
I hate FTL...

But I love it at the same time...

That is probably a tricky issue. On the one hand exclusive content is a part of the project, but on the other there seems to be interest and it would be nice if anyone could get some of the extra goodies.

As for pre-orders, the devs went out of their way to make sure that people who were supposed to get early acces to the game were able to, though later there were some snags about the game going on sale immediatley after release. I'm sure that they will try to be fair to their backers in the future as well.

It was discussed months ago on the forum. Few examples:

Depends what kind of DLC you are talking about. Let's make an analogy ... Dragon age awakening DLC for Dragon age origins. That kind of DLC would be ok, though I don't see why anyone would bother making such a DLC for ftl 1. It has a simple storyline, rather simple gameplay, pretty hard to patch up in decent DLC's. It would be much easier to start from scratch (well, pseudo-scratch) and create a sequel. Well, in this case, this game would need a prequel.

As far as new weapons and stuff go, those should come as game updates (free updates). I for one played 1.01 until a few days ago and now I got 1.03. I will play it soon and see what was updated, but in 1.01 I felt that the game needed more weapons, and perhaps more upgrades to the ship. I always liked Tech-Trees more than linear upgrades, so you could customize your ship to be a slow beast, or an agile hit-and-run...cloak. Why not make hull upgrades, damage absorption against certain types of damage, movie clips to show you how you die over and over in different ways? (you can take dead space as an example in dying).

Well, all those ideas should go in ftl 2.0 in my opinion as it would change the core of the game.

I wouldn't mind(so long as its decently priced) for more content added in the game. Perhaps even help make the game mod friendly for them modders.

Add in more ships, weapons, events, achievements, deeper gameplay, background art(planets and such), more editing your ship perhaps (shield color, engine color, weapon colors, possible ship glows and edit those colors, LOL). EDIT EDIT EDIT MINE MINE MINE!.

Perhaps allow full custimization, with limited amont of points to spend, 1 for picking ship components and another for type of crew.
Place them in what sections you would like.

New random powerful cruisers you may come across.
Black-hole, you have limited amont of time before your crushed (making escaping vital asap, of course terrible idea with how easy missle poke through your shields)

Really, i would love a FTL-2, but a much more advanced game. When i think space combat, i think more Star Trek, where missles do massible hull damage but only if shields are drilled down... thats something id like to see fit into some new thought out combat for a FTL-2, as FTL will be left as is. (thats why i just pick Mantis-B and never worry about missles).

So, DLC, yes... but I would much more rather a FTL-2 which could make for a even far great game and make things easier on modding.
