It not worthless you get some combat EXP for your crew.
But yes something more than just EXP would be nice.

Actually i was the only one to say 'worthless' and i'll admit right away that 9 times out of 10 such events are mostly harmelss.

Still, you never know what awaits you at a beacon without a ship present (if you can see it with a secor map or LR scanners).

Wouldn't mind this too, usually too easy and gives almost nothing. Vent everything but the med bay and whatever room next to the medbay you need for your crew. Keep on moving them around in the two-three rooms with air so they heal if needed and kill the invaders.

Followed by a minute or two of boring downtime while I put the O2 back.

I can't say I haven't also muttered this under my breath to myself: "Barely survived being boarded and what do I get? NOTHING."
