Ships with 4 drone slots and 2 weapons

You need to change the images manually if you want the graphics to be correct for the extra drone slot. I haven't messed with it since release, but I remember it being relatively easy to figure out.

You can even make a ship with 5 or 6 drone slots, there is no problem in that, but of course u will ruin the UI completely. Eventually u will not even be able to click in one drone slot..
