Also, you're somewhat mistaken in believing that a player WILL have weapons by then. My last run with the Carnelian didn't have weapons for quite a while, and even once it did, I preferred boarding them. Furthermore, soft, squishy ships will be very difficult to use your firepower on safely, giving yet another bonus to the crystal lockdowns. (the basic one being the ability to take a LOT less damage to your boarders)
I am not contesting that when you have crystal B and other ships you need to devise more complex strategies to take advantage of their quirky nature. I am trying to aid those who have trouble completing the game, not those who know how everything works. The whole damage to boarders thing stops mattering when you use mantis. They are easy mode.
Also, during the boss fight you WILL have to deploy/redeploy, and if the enemy crew is composed of large quantities of Mantis you will also want to do it (or use the various rearrangement techniques detailed in other threads), and a level 3 medbay/teleporter combination is crucial for any self-respecting boarder.
You don't have to redeploy at speed. You need to disable the laser and the missile turrets, which requires two teleports. I've done it quite easily with a level 2 teleporter. Once you've disabled those two turrets and killed the people in there you can take your sweet time with the ship.
And as for the Crystal ships, one can just as easily get a hacked profile, be VERY lucky (like I was, I already gave up all hope of finding that beauty to complete my collection, though I -was- actually referring to getting it by chance in his first playthroughs), or mod the game to give the ship for just STARTING. Tried the last one, failed due to not having ftldat. :)
There's no such thing as luck, only you playing the game again and again until you have sated the random number god's wrath. If you're playing the game that much you don't need my walkthrough as you are skilled, though there may be some aspects where it could aid you.

You could get a hacked profile, and in that case there are a variety of guides out there for you. You could be incredibly lucky, but I'm trying to give them the best chance of winning, not gambling.

Heal Bomb is the worst bomb? Only 1 star? Get a 4 person teleporter. Heck, get a 2 person. Then its good.

Only way Heal Bomb is good is if you've taken out the helm of the enemy ship, otherwise, like other bombs, it misses now and then, which can kinda mess up your plans...this being FTL, it misses most when you really, really need it....
