But the anwser to your question has been given. FTL was released as a digital download for 10 bucks +- some discounts. A fully finished game that receives patches to fix a bunch of bugs and improve cross-platform compatibility and some other issues. Potential DLC is pssible but not promised or expected. It would be well received though, i'm sure. It's really just a normal game that you buy, own, play, etc...

The number of threads that seem to depict a public entitled, nay, DEMANDING extra content is alarming to me, the game has been out, what, 3 WEEKS? Not 3 months, 3 weeks.

The tone of this thread title 'Will FTL ever be updated again?' seems to suggest that you have already decided that the developers don't care and have just abandoned us or something, whats with that?? From what I've heard, the developers are burnt out and are trying to take a BREAK, from, you know, making the game? Which took the better part of a year?

And besides, it was already updated recently, we've got an option in the menu that allows you to see the beacon pathing, something which quite a few people have requested. That was a small update, but surely it shows you the developers are still there, and listening?

What gave you the impression that the game was never gonna be updated again?? They haven't made an announcement saying such, so you generally assume the developers are supporting it until you hear otherwise, at least that's what I do...

There are only 2 developers, by the way. There was another space game a while back, Space Pirates And Zombies (SPAZ) which is also made by 2 indie developers. They too released a FINISHED product, which FTL is, but later on expanded on it and added in more features, ships and even new faction, for free. This was only after the game became financially viable, and after months of work, bug fixes and the like. Had they implemented all this extra content from the start, the game might have been released about a year later, well after they had run out of money.

I'm sure the developers aren't finished with the game - a lot of people seem to think that because the game got so much kickstarter money, there should automatically be more game, but remember, the developers main priority was to get a full, working, complete game to release. If they wanted to implement all the ideas they had, I'm sure it would have taken a lot longer for the game to get released.

Just be glad you didn't get Legends of Pegasus

well since Justin posted ON THESE VERY FORUMS saying they would be at some videogame convention in California, this or last weekend, strongly suggests this is the case. Why would anyone want to meet a forum moderator?

To the point: the above suggests that Justin and Matthiew read these forums regularly, or If I may be so bold as to claim that they might actually manage them themself?
This means we (we = ftl gaming comunity) ARE SO LUCKY as to have the actual developers read our posts.

AND YOU DUDES WASTE THEIR TIME TROLLING each other, playing who is smartest with people you will never meet, writing text that will be forgotten in the infinite pages of internet and who frankly, no one cares about...

How about putting the word community in these forums instead of making it a huge troll den and start taking advantage of the opportunity we are being given, to comunicate directly to the devs and letting them know what we want more from the game, since they seem to be listening to us...

I had to laugh at the poster who said he could make the game in a weekend , lol , i dont like being rude but what an idiot. I paid £7 for this game , i played about 40 hours , sound's like a good deal to me .

The angry men of the internet are never happy , they want every game to last a lifetime and to live there lives on a game.

Of course i would love updates and patches , i'd definetly pay for a DLC.

I will certainly grant that the development of the concept and playbalancing take longer than duplicating something. But considering the length of time it took the devs to make FTL, I think we're far more likely to see more expansion to the game come out of the FTL:Overdrive project than any significant content from the devs. I suspect the only official stuff we'll see is incremental... a new race, a new ship, a "hard" mode, etc. FTL:Overdrive will give people to take the core combat engine, which is actually really good, and tie it into a real game scenario.

lol at this comment. This guy must not have ever programmed before. He has no idea how much work even a relatively small game like this compared to mainstream games, takes to program.

Hmmm. If it was a full weekend marathon, and you had the art/music assits ready to go, and you were trying to clone it (no need to come up with weapon stats/balance) what you can see /and/ you are good enough with AI to handle the pathing, I could see some people pulling it off in a weekend yes. Might need a bit more time to input all the dialogue. You could certinly make a decent chunk of it. The engine at the very least.

Thats of course with pre-knowledge of how everything works and the right kind of experiance. From scratch from an idea takes a /lot/ longer.

Not that that has anything to do with anything.

Does that mean we can expect the release of FTL: Overdrive some time next week? Because they attempt to do that...

Urgh. Getting tired of seeing these kinds of threads. Over 3/4 of the content on Discussion is about updates, DLC, or sequels.

your probably thinking in terms of all the games you have been playing up to today, aka mainstream games produced by companies with hundreds of employees. FTL was made by 2 people in 1 year. stop.
