Re: FTL MMO? Just a random thought.

Now, what I was thinking was a kind of a Player/Server hosted system. All the server needs to do is calculate what NPC/Ship you would encounter. Perhaps MMO is abit to grand combination of words, but a simple game, where you login, select your ship, start where you quit (Quitting in the middle of a battle = instant loss, if the ship is as good/better than yours)

This is how pictured it in my head : You start off with your ship, noting much, a small frigate perhaps. You progress throu the "Starting starsystem" and then you make your way to the first mayor "hub". Where other players can meet, challange eatch other and trade weapons/Drones/other equipment. The main quest of FTL whould be longer, more "harsh" and alot harder. There whould also be harder side-quests. And even other "Main-quests", small instant-quests and perhaps even some random instanses (I.E defend and hold this station from the other faction/NPC's).

There whould be alot of theese main-hubs and also alot of minor hubs.

My idea needs alot of work, but I am thinking of everything, (I.E, the fuel-system, missile-system and drone-system, personally I think the game, even turend into an mmo, whould need theese.)

What whould then happen if you ran out of fuel? You could signal other players / pay some sort of ensurance to get picked up. If need to log off during this period of "fuelness less", you could set a price (I.E, 24 scrap, 1 missle and 2 drone parts) and a player whould come pick you up and gett this reward. If he/she had the fuel/time to spare.

This works great in my head. What do you guys think? It's just a thought.

Ships? My idea, you could buy new ships/upgrade your excisting ship, upgrades whould follow you if you bought a new one. Ships can also be gotten from quests / bosses.

Clans/Guild/Fleets? A fleet of your finest friends would be kind of cool, fleet wars, something that would need some mayor remapping, but still, a nice thought.

EDIT : I will add more, alot more. So if you find this intressting, keep reading! :)
EDIT 2 : Not discussing stealing / taking anything from FTL, FTL + some ideas, for better and for worse.

dont diss the OP..

i like the idea, I know the devs said they will implement more content eventually. thats all i know...

but hell a lot could happen in FTL with a perpetual community.

If i may say. I played GO II on facebook ... Galaxy Online 2. some of the game mechanics could be used for a mmo version of FTL; instanced pve, instanced pvp (2v2) and some instanced arena (1v1).

can i have a penny now?

Honestly, it wouldn't convert very well. With all the things that would need to be converted or changed to become a successful MMO, it would be unrecognizable after being finished.

And honestly, if I want a space MMO, I'll just go play EVE Online some more.

That is true, but don't think of it as a conversion, think of it more as an expansion! :)

I think it is unlikely that Justin and Matthew will sell the IP. Don't think you will be able to make any expansion as such.

Don't even see how that would work. you would have to change so many core mechanics that it would just be better to start over from scratch.

As the title clearly states, and as I've stated over the course of this thread, this is just a thought. If you do not like it, fine, don't. But this game is at it's heart an indie game. Do you know what that means?
9,818 sure did, they backed a project that they thought looked awesome without seeing the finished product, just a piched idea, a thought.
So if you want to go all destroyer on my ideas ass, do it.
The great thing with and idea, it can be molded to suit even the less gifted. This game is not a super hit. It's not my favorite game. But it's still a great game, I do not want to change it, but I had a thought. This is not personal towards you Gorlom, FTL's community is the problem. The organism itself, where IDEAS ARE CHRUSED by some petty minded homo sapiens.

Fuck it, I'm off.

Yea, but don't go away, discussion boards are for topics like this.
Someone has a thought, someone else has a thought, brainstorming is where it all starts.
Haters gonna hate.

I imagine you would have larger ships, maybe even more than 1 person controlling ship in a fight. Each with its own crew.
I imagine you would have only 1 persistent crew character that would level up while ships and other crew members would be expendable and relatively short lived.

Then i imagine big raids, like hundreds of small fights fighting for a planet and its resources.

I see player controlled economy, guilds and rebels. Stuff like that.

But it should not be action game like EVE or MMORPG. It should be based on slow and steady fights like in FTL.

So you're mad because the people that like FTL for what it is don't think that there's a good easy way to convert to an MMO format while keeping the same feel of the game, and you complain about how bad the community is?

And you want an MMO?

You're aware that pretty much every MMO after the EQ era is notorious for being a bigger armpit than Mos Eisley right?

I guess I could just sit here an flame you if it makes you feel better.

ill say it again
go check galaxy online 2 (or 1) its a browser game with a mmoRTSish gameplay. It works, lots of people play it, so don't lecture us on what wont happen according to your opinion....
