Why use Steam if all it does is to take away Linux version from you? And the soundtrack? (not even mentioning chaining you with DRMs)

Exactly. What's unclear here?

Because if you buy it from the homepage you get it from GoG and steam. Subset games (Justin and Matthews company) doesn't have their own distribution platform.

I think that's not entirely true. The "homepage" version goes through Humble Bundle (at least mine did).
There really are 3 different versions via 3 different distribution platforms.
Which is clearly stated with 3 different links:
http://www.ftlgame.com/?page_id=106
(I did not get a key to redeem Humble Bundle version on GOG, but there is a key to redeem on Steam. Which is completely useless thing to do IMHO)

Are you sure about that? How did you get your DRM free version then? directly from humble bundle? Hah I hadn't even noticed humble bundle had download options.. my bad :p
I backed the project so it might work a bit differently for me than for someone that buys the game after release. however I got an email with a link to the humble bundle store beta. where there was a link that said "click here for your steam and GOG keys plus download options from humble bundle (select platform and direct download or torrent)
If I click the link I get to see my steam key. If i click the GoG tab I get to unlock my gog key.

I did not back the game, wasn't even aware. I come from "the street" and happily supports the game as it got so good reviews and stellar (haha) coverage on Rockpapershotgun.com in their FTL diary.
AND IT IS GOOD! Love it!
So, just sayin: bad buyer's experience being had, and it is a complete mystery to me why Subset games has salami sliced their release to this extent. Sell me the bloody game that works on osx, steam, whatever okay? Don't throw these same-but-different options at me.
Also, Imagine person who buys on GOG and then finds out "Oh sorry, no OSX or Linux or steam for you". How were they supposed to know? They will also feel somehow cheated becasuse there's not any real awesome reason for this to be so. Its just because. And it sucks for the customer.

1. to reach more consumers that already utilizes either the steam, gog or humble bundle platforms. Limiting yourself to only one platform means less sales.
2. Anyone familiar with steam and GoG should think it obvious that you don't get it from other distributors if you buy it from a specific one. I'm not familiar with humble bundle so I can't say anything about that.
3. It is rather clearly explained in their faq and news on ftlgame.com if you actually read it.

I don't know how you can misinterpret this quote to think GoG.com belongs to ftlgame.com, or that GoG.com offers linux and OSX versions.
Where can I buy it?
Steam offers Windows and Mac builds:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/212680
GOG.com has a DRM free Windows version along with bonus content (some music tracks and concept art).
Our website gives you access to a Windows, Mac OSX , and Linux version, all DRM-free, as well as a Steam key.

What annoys me about non having bought the steamer version is to not get access to the new patches! How about a warning laber for that?
WARNING: Buying from gog or humble will delay access to bugfixes!

I entered my email at homepage in the box with annotation "Humble Store", paid via Google Checkout to "Humble Bundle, Inc." and then got email from Humble Bundle "Thanks for purchasing FTL" with Humble URL. At this url there are usual HB links and "Click here for your Steam key". No GOG key for me.
If you analyze the ftl homepage, you can see that order box is in fact hosted by Humble Bundle, not FTL:

Yeah, but I got my gog key through humble bundle. Guess it was a kickstarter backer only thing.
Now that I look at both the quote posted above and the link in my email I see where I got it wrong. Humble bundle doesn't offer the GoG key, it offers it's own download for the DRM free version.
Jamotid: if you ordered from humble bundle didn't you get a steam key too?

Basically, the FAQ on the official site is correct.
