I just bought an iPad air 2 and bought this game based on seeing it on a number of "best" lists.
Well, it doesn't have sound for me either.
Now that I see this problem has existed for almost a year, I don't have much confidence it will be fixed.
What's the best way to get my money back?
Report a problem with Apple?
This is a brand new iPad air 2 with only a few apps on it. It's really embarrassing they haven't fixed this. Or maybe the people who coded it have moved on to other apps.
Regardless, I want my money back and it should be pulled from the App Store if they can't fix this obvious problem.

Tried this in every conceivable fashion on the iPad Mini 4, and sound still does not work

This bug often happens to me for seemingly no reason, but I've done this several times with consistent success on a first gen iPad Mini.
If you notice the sound is not playing:
- 1. Reboot the iPad with the sound switched on
2. Toggle the sound off and then on
3. Open FTL
That should do it. Hope it works for you folks as well.
