Going to switch out of Ubuntu for awhile so I can see whether the overheating issue has gone away (which btw is the main topic of this...).

I'll get back to you on the Linux problem, sorry we're a bit overwhelmed with customer support at the moment. If you're switching out of Ubuntu, don't forget to try the windows related fixes I suggested:

-Make sure your drivers are fully up to date.
-Go into your graphics control panel (I think it's the 'NVIDIA Control Panel') and try to force ON V-Sync to see if that helps.

Forcing V-sync on seems to have fixed the issue... The game no longer runs at the crazy 989 frames per second (like it did the first time I fired it up...) but stays at the stable 40...
Anyways, as far as I'm concerned, your customer support is simply stellar. One may say it's faster than light! *Da-dum-Tssss*

I have an Nvidia laptop card as well and my fan was working overtime, this seems to have solved the problem for me as well. It runs a lot cooler now that V-sync is forced on.

Great game.

I did everything I could to stop this, but no luck. I tried every combination of running the game without steam, forcing vsync via the nvidia control panel, forcing vsync globally, the in-game vsync option, the frame limit option, and nothing works. It maxes out my laptop's GPU and CPU. I had a scar on my leg from a couple hours of the huge power drain that lasted for a few months.

I am having the same problem with overheating, but only on one of my computers.

I have a Desktop PC that runs an overclocked i7 with a GTX 670, a Macbook running Windows on an i7 with a GTX 650, and an HP laptop that runs an i5 and has integrated graphics.

My gaming desktop & Macbook have absolutely no issues with CPU or GPU temps while running the game, but my HP laptop gets a CPU temp spike from 55-60C where it idles to 90C+ when the game is running. There is no appreciable difference in the performance of the game between all 3 systems.

I have turned on V-Sync on all 3 systems, and on the HP laptop I turned on the frame limit option as well, but with no noticeable difference.

The laptop is stable while running the game and other apps for several hours (no crashes or anything yet) but I really want to avoid melting it.
